Merchant Versus Affiliate....

I suspect that many sales are lost in affiliate marketing due to phone orders, glitches in tracking software, customers bypassing or blocking cookies and perhaps a bunch of other reasons that I may not have thought of.

Tell us, has anyone made the jump from affiliate to merchant and did you see an increase in sales / revenue as a result?

      Hi InfoMaven,

I didn't quite get your meaning there. Could you elaborate on 'opposite'.... a bit?

I think what infomaven meant was that they would like 1% of the return of 100 affiliates - ie as the merchant than 100% of the efforts of 1 person...ie the affiliate.

It is obvious that having a number of affiliates work for you is much better than trying to market product yourself.

So to the OP I think most marketers would agree that it is better to be the merchant than the affiliate.

          Thanks Snapper,

i'm curious then - why does this entire forum seem to revolve around affiliate marketing / techniques?

          It seems odd, doesn't it?

If I had to have a guess about why the forum is all about affiliate marketing then 1/- there are lots more affiliates than merchants here and so the ratio in regards to affiliate questions and merchant questions will reflect that and 2/- Merchants as a general rule have more experience and therefore are more likely to provide an answer rather than start a thread - as I said that could be a big generalization though.

its easier to be an affiliate, no product required. and you can still make as much as you want basically..

if affiliates pull off 4-5 figure days (consistently), what do you think these merchants are doing? thats where the big money is at. and in my opinion, being a merchant can be more stable than the average affiliate.

and as kyle quoted before, leverage is where its at when you want to make money.

I wouldn't become a vendor just to avoid losing commissions. Getting lots of super affiliates isn't as easy as people will tell you. Depends on a lot of things, not all of them are easy to do (i.e developing relationships, being well positioned etc etc).
