You could always try joining groups on social sites, like Facebook or LinkedIn! This guide has some great ways to get involved with the WordPress community (and some groups you can join):

Facebook and LinkedIn are excellent places. It's easy to search for the groups and you'll be able to see how active the members are really quickly.
