HELP: My first E-book. What service/product?

Hello Warriors,

I am rather new to marketng society. I think I am 'ready' to publish my first ebook. Content of it is very good so I have no worries. However, I need some help regarding all 'technical' aspects, as this is my first try.

Is there any product/service that would allow me to sell/publish my ebook? What I am focused on is:

1. Payment. What service I could use to collect payment for ebook? I have PayPal account, bank account. What service 'could take care' about all the payments issues? I am private person - but if needed I can sell this ebook on behalf of other business of my brother.

2. Ebook download-encryption. Is there any service that could 'encrypt' my Ebooks? Is it possible at all to make it hard to "copy"(and then publish on torrents etc)? How to publish ebook - via online store?

3. Is there any company that could 'publish' my ebook, taking care or all legall issues?

4. Any service that could allow affiliates to resell my ebook?

I would be grateful for all help on this and any other tips. Thanks.
Sylvester

    Hi Sylvester,

Congrats on completing your first ebook!

As far as payment processors are concerned, since this is your first time, i would suggest go with clickbank, it takes only 50$ to set up a merchant account and they take care of all your payment headaches.

Listing with clickbank gives you the opportunity to utilize its 100000 affiliate database, so thats a huge plus point.

Although you will need few things set up before you are qualified as a merchant like:
    A thank you page
    Download page
    And few other minute adjustments
(Read the instruction form in detail its all there , when you sign up)

    Now to encrypt your ebook:
You can use NitroPDF to make it password protected, which you can supply in the delivery mail after purchase
(Although if your customers decide to upload them on torrent sites with the passwords, then there is nothing you can do about it)
You can also use Dlguard to protect your downloads from digital theft
    Hint: just google dlguard.com
Its a great product by a fellow warrior only!

Lastly on legal issues, (well i am no lawyer but..) a simple disclaimer on ebook and salespage should take care of most of issues
(My disclaimer- This may not be correct)

    Hope This Helps!

      Hey rahulchandra,

Thanks a lot. Clickbank looks good, I know a bit about them. There is no problem on my side with creating webpage etc. But managing PDF downloads and payments is something I can not do on my own.

Does clickbank allow to sell producst on my websites(giving me just some scripts for payments) or only directly at their site?

Like i said, they take care of all payment processing, you will need to set up an order page based on the code you receive from clickbank so that when customers decide to buy they are directed to clickbank's gateway.

Yes, You will sell the product/service you are offering from your website only hosted on your server only, they will give you a code which will enable the buyers to buy your product via their payment gateway, and after deducing their percentage per sale commission and affiliate commissions(if any), they'll send you a check( to an address you specify)

        All the best!
        Rahul

P.S- let me know when you launch your product

    1. Use clickbank. They'll take care of it for you.
    2. Don't worry about it. Focus on making money, people will get around copy protection one way or another.
    3. Not really a worry either. You don't need to publish your book if you're selling it yourself.
    4. Clickbank is perfect for this

Hope that helps, just remember to focus on the marketing of the book rather than all the legal and copy protection stuff.

  • clickbank is good. But paydotcom is easier to get on to and still does the trick.

You could also look into e-junkie.com. I use them to sell one of my ebooks and you can set up an affiliate program through them. Much cheaper than Clickbank but CB also has a much larger affiliate marketplace. I use both and I got a LOT of affiliates quickly when I launched my product on the CB marketplace.

One more question. I am not sure if I made myself clear in question#3:

"3. Is there any company that could 'publish' my ebook, taking care or all legall issues?"

The problem is that I live outside US. I have complicated law here. For instance, if I sell ebook I should run business, which not only means paying income taxes but also VAT tax(22%).

I could avoid that if I "give" my ebook to someone(some company) and they sell it for me on their behalf, paying me only for the "copy rights" for that ebook.

Is that possible in US? When I sell via ClickBank who is "seller" on the invoice for purchaser of my ebook? me or CB? I assume I get invoice with revenue from ClickBank....Am I wrong assuming that ClickBank is the "seller" here? What is the "subject" of invoice that I get from ClicBank? Do they list there all items sold on my behalf? What kind of "name" they write on invoice(or wire transfer) for their service when they pay me?

I hope you understand my question - please let me know when it needs clarification.
