$5 a day. $10 a day. $100 a day. 10k a month. How ever do I decide?

Where's the dang poll button? Did we lose that?

Well, vote on how much a day/month I should set for my goal, and then tell me how to make which ever one you suggest.

Thanks!

Seriously, we need a sticky at the top of this forum for the most requested income goals. I keep thinking it's the same day every day on this forum as the posts are all starting to run the same cycle daily.

EDIT ADDED:

Attention! Ok, feeling massive guilt here because I have truly nice people here sending me PM's trying to help me.

PLEASE do not send me help. This post was initially put up because there was a long list of these types of posts happening in a short period.

Apparently people did not see the part above which I have just bolded.

I'm honestly grateful to those of you who were trying to help and you need to know that if you posted trying to help on this thread you should not take it in vain as you might help someone else who reads what you have written.

This was not a serious question on my part. But there is a huge lesson to be learned here (which I tried to incorporate below but feel it was lost).

Gosh, not even sure where to begin here but maybe with just the most basic and fundamental thing about posting on a public forum.

I began marketing on the web back in 2007, and was very TRUSTFUL and wanted to believe what I was reading from others to be the truth. I am not going to go into the sorted details here as I've deposited that story all over the web over a course of years.

What I will tell you is you can't take everything you see/read at face value. Diligence is really important! Looking into the past of members here with more than a handful of posts will be to your benefit! It will give you an idea of who you are really talking to.

Please people, read threads and pay attention! Don't hesitate to click into peoples profiles here and investigate for yourselves who you are responding to - and try to get a feel of their personality based on their writing styles and how they reply to others.

There is a lot to be learned by poking into other peoples pasts.

    Wow, Jill,

You've been an active member of this forum that long, and you are hung up on setting a doable daily income goal?

Well, I'm not going to insult you with newbie stuff you must have already read by now, but my Very-Brief-Summary suggestion is that you start with the $5 a day goal on a scaleable business model (ie, for example, NOT writing articles - you can only personally scale that to how many you can write in, say, a ten hour day), gain some fast success (say through social marketing), analyse, try solo ads, analyse, etc. If you want a more structured way to achieve this, do something like SBI!, but be prepared to realise these things take time to build and bring rewards. But done right, the momentum will be there, and so will the pay-off.

Once you achieve the modest income goal, increase it. But always learn why what you are doing works, and how to maximise. Keep it simple, and your actions targetted - don't chase the shinies.

Hope that is something to kick off with,

    Sue

      LOL,

      Ok Sue.

      Why only $5 a day?

Why wouldn't you encourage a newbie or anyone to go for a slightly higher starting goal?

This place has grown to a forum that's designed for newbs to be taught by newbs. Hence the endless cycle. How can I make $5 a day? "Take action!" How can I get traffic? "Try SEO. Thank you." Advanced or in depth marketing discussions are rarely seen here.

If ever there was a time to launch an internet marketing forum, this is it.
Other than the spam issue (noticed that even this morning I believe with a gazillion threads that were all the same ad) How would you fix it? Ban the noob questions? I'm still wondering why the "add a poll" feature is missing - or did I just totally miss it and go blind...

        I feel your pain.

I was gone for MONTHS and started jumping back in recently but the conversations have become a bit stale. I think I keep coming back in thinking "maybe this will be the day" but the only new thing is some new forum segment added.

That's a good question. I've been on forums before where they had something that said "a similar thread was posted at this link on ____". No idea what gave the forum that ability through, but I know something like that is possible. I would think a multi-million dollar company would be able to monitor threads and nuke those that are repetitive.

I really have no issues with anyone that says "how to I make money" or other various questions like that. But 99.9% of the time there is little to no information that anyone can give any reasonable answer other than the generic answers that are provide.

What do you do? What are you proficient in? What are your interests? What have you already done or researched? etc, etc, etc.

If you come to any forum and ask for help, you should at least show that you've tried to do some research and give people the ability to help.

          Okay, end rant.

Ok, I'm a bit lost now (this has happened to me before: someone asks a question, I answer it because I presume they want an answer, I get blasted because they were only being facetious), am I just being baited?

Why only aim for $5 per day as a goal? It's not the amount so much, but the fact that whatever you did resulted in some income, not no income. This is an obvious starting point - finding something that works and then making it more efficient, resulting in more income. For total beginners, a goal of $5 per day is not scary or ambitious, but it is a result. A starting point to work from.

On your other point - of course the threads all seem to cycle around. How can a new person know what has been discussed before? The search function does not help much in this case, and no-one is going to spends weeks reading everything on this site before they dare post anything. How can it be otherwise?

Not baiting you and sorry to give you any confusion.

I'm willing to debate answers people give and why they give them.

This particular question appears SO much on this forum that it really should be some kind of sticky. Like a sticky that says "read this first before you post these income requests" and either provides a format for asking the question properly and/or give links to the gazillion answers on the topic.

People ask this question and give us NO idea of what experience they have. And it becomes like pulling teeth to try to give them better than a generic answer.

I gave you NO idea on this thread of what my talents might be. That should help determine part of that answer above, no?

If I tell you I can build websites in a day, write ebooks, and pop up instructional videos from shooting to editing, are you now going to stand by that $5 a day goal? Or are you going to push me a bit?

Mmmm, well I, for one, LOVE this question! It gets to the heart of why 80% of people who dabble in the IM never make a dime. The worst thing for the average newbie is to try to make $10k a day first up. It leads to the "magic button" syndrome that drains their cash and enthusiasm. An immediate goal of $5 a day creates ACTION, sets up a successful MINDSET and teaches the core SKILLS. It doesn't matter that is only $5 a day, it sets up the future. Cheers

Ha, well this year is about getting rid of stuff. I'm in Florida for the winter clearing out my parents house. It's a lot of stuff to sell/donate/distribute.

You get to a point in life where you realize you really do have pretty much everything you need. Going for the bigger number though so I can save up for those loony bin expenses in my old age. Just long enough till I get too loony to know where I am. At that point the state can take me over.

Figuring a decent home will cost about 10k a month once I get there. I have no kids to leave anything to, so gotta make sure I spend it all before I go.

                Hi Jill,
It is because you omitted all these details that I took it you were being one of those "I need to start from scratch and have a goal" type of newbies. And hence the Very Brief reply - not enough info to go on. If you can do all those things you just mentioned, you would not be asking this question.
So I don't really get the point of all this. Why are you asking what you have admitted to be a dumb question? How is this going to help anyone? Especially newbies who hit this subforum first? Indepth discussions (of which someone else was deploring the lack) will be in the other subforums, of course.

You might want to get your sarcasm detector looked at.

The original post was clearly extreme sarcasm aimed at the endless "how to make $xxx a day/month/year threads that seem to be pouring in recently.

                  Aha.
                  My point exactly.

What if when you saw this question posted in the future, you knew there would be some additional information auto-generated with it? Would it not better enhance the experience here?

If you can do all those things you just mentioned, you would not be asking this question.

First off, I hate seeing the term "dumb" question. What I do believe we need here are "better posted questions."

To address the first part of that piece of quote, I hope to enlighten you to something here on the forum. I will start first with saying I admire and truly appreciate that you wanted to help me. But even you admitted,"Wow, Jill,

You've been an active member of this forum that long, and you are hung up on setting a doable daily income goal? "

-and from that a giant red flag should go up for you and you should in the future not hesitate to look at my history a bit or the history of other posters who do have one.

In the end of my initial comment I said "Seriously, we need a sticky at the top of this forum for the most requested income goals. I keep thinking it's the same day every day on this forum as the posts are all starting to run the same cycle daily.

If you go back through my history you will see quite of bit about me. You'd see I do try to give helpful information - but don't be fooled by that thanks number as some of it is due to purely sarcastic comments.

You also would likely find I have experience in all those things mentioned and a bit more. And hopefully you would have caught on that the question itself was intended to have multiple purposes, although none of which really for what the question is (if you are following what I am saying here you are good!)

How is this going to help anyone? Especially newbies who hit this subforum first? Indepth discussions (of which someone else was deploring the lack) will be in the other subforums, of course.
Well, hopefully it first will help the new owners of this forum to realize something to figure out to improve the overall quality of this main discussion area.

Seems years ago this type of question was not nearly as prevalent. Also seems like people put more thought into the questions they were asking. Newbies or not - some people are coming on, jumping in and give the impression that they are entitled to the answer to their life - without any effort on their part to give a little (information about themselves even) before getting.

Hopefully I've helped you - don't take anyone here at face value and don't be afraid to dig in and get a feel for the other members here to know who you are talking to - and call people out on stuff if need be!

Some replies in this thread do help me personally to understand some other people here. Their thinking processes.

This main area used to be on FIRE but it's almost like too many sub-forums are being created and people are being filed into different directions.

I don't have a clue what the current sign up process to this forum entails, but I almost want to suggest that new sign ups have to wait a week before getting to post (possibly with exception of those who buy something right away like war room) and all new people are given a "best practices" guide or something and quizzed on it before being allowed to post.

Best advice I could give you on this subject: our opinion doesn't matter. Test it out for yourself and learn what your capability is. Then set a goal.

The way you asked the question isn't compatible with a reasonable answer.

I'm not you, my goal is 10K a day. Am I there yet? No. Have I made 10k in a day? Yes on a launch. Should you shoot low? Nobody should shoot low. 100$ a day isn't hard and it really isn't that much money, I mentioned in another thread that Udemy offers 50% commission through the linkshare network. Some of the courses on Udemy are $200+, so set a reasonable goal, like getting somebody to buy one. Once that occurs, evaluate the outcome and make decisions about what occurred. Once you have a reasonable amount of experience, then you can establish your goal.

Then start thinking about margins. If your commission on a course is 100$ and you know it sells, is it worth it to spend 50$ on ads to get a conversion? Obviously it is, I would do it all day long. This creates a situation where the only limiting factors are your capital and the inventory volume. If there's a large inventory how much do you want to buy? Well, you're doubling your money, so you buy all of it. Your goal should be to find this situation, not a dollar amount. Those kinds of opportunities do not last forever, so setting some kind of monthly goal doesn't really work. Start thinking about net income, stop worrying about months and days.

I like to aim high, but then set smaller goals to lead up to it..
If you set your goal to make 10k a month within a month you will likely be disappointed, but if you set your goal to make 10k a month within a year, that's likely obtainable, them break it down more - eg. 100 a month within 3 months, 1000 a month within 6 months, etc

Sadly, the idea of requiring 'new' members requiring say; 100 contributions/posts to threads before being able to start a new thread came to mind...

Then, reality struck... We'd have 1000's of useless posts spamming the useful threads so they could reach 100 posts... the problem doesn't seem resolvable.

50% of the top 10 posts are all the same... Guess the mods are 'off duty'?

No wonder so many of the older members disappeared... this place changed a lot!

If you are in IM as your niche you should be taking notes...

The questions that people new to IM are desperately searching for answers to: what to expect, whats possible, how much can I make, how do I plan, what should I do?

None of these questions actually have answers and none of them actually help them accomplish anything other than overcoming their fears.

Don't fret. I feel things will turn around for you, Jill, if you just do that one thing lol

January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.

FL has changed the moderation to achieve maximum page views. That is their only criteria for letting threads live.

The quality of the discussion has no meaning anymore.

      Yeah, about that...

One of the first things I noticed when I logged back in after awhile was the banner ads. I mean, they're all FL ads. And no one else is using the banner spot. That was never true in the past.

Members we're buying that thing up left and right.

      So...

Honestly Jill i haven't seen that question posed in about 1 1/2 months now lol. Those looking to make $5/day need a day job. That's not enough to pay a Verizon phone bill these days.

Maybe not, but it's enough to support a $5 for five packs a day smoking habit if you know how to roll your own.

It may be coincidental, but this very morning I decided to give my website at
www.money-makingopportunies.com a complete overhaul. I deleted all my content, and did a new home page. Previously, I hadn't touched it in years.

I then read an old report I had sitting on my hard drive, and the author was taliking about providing a platform on your site for people to contrinute, and I thought "What a good idea!"

Then I came over here, first time in ages (I was bored!), since it has become home to posts such as "How can I make $100,000 with no money and no work?" and saw this thread, and I thought "Why not let some Warriors have the opportunity to pass on their knowledge?

I should add that all comments would be scrutinised personally by me for spam.
I've been a Warrior since 2003, so I know how to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Links will be allowed, but not affiliate links.

Would love to hear from some of the posters on this thread, who know a thing or two.
