There are so many landing page and lead capture websites:

clickfunnels.com
landerapp.com
unbounce.com
hubspot.com
leadpages.net
wishpond.com
instapage.com
landingicom
getresponse.com
kickofflabs.com
Wordpress

Which do you use and why?

ClickFunnels but I use it for much more then just a landing page which I think is what most other companies listed here are lacking.

    Thrive Content Builder all day.

It's super fast, sleek, constantly updated, a sunken cost, and the developers are cool as hell.

I bought Instapages a while back. Found it difficult to use and it produces really bloated code, so I went back to using HTML.

I think (almost) every marketer should know very basic HTML, like how to make a link, bold, etc. It's kind of sad that HTML skills are being lost. HTML isn't hard. Good design is and there's a difference.

The two that I primarily use are WPprofitbuild and OptimizePress. To be honest I love both of them but lately I have been using WPprofitbuilder more and more. You can do a lot of with both of these. I use them for squeeze pages, sales pages, download pages, membership pages, and any other custom designed pages I might need.

One benefit these two have over some of the others is that their are no monthly fees. Some of the other great page builders like leadpages and clickfunnels have monthly fees.

Ditto to what these Gentlemen said. Optimize Press.

I think they get a bad rap for their rollout a while back, but I wasn't a buyer then so I didn't suffer through the frustrations and/or work out the bugs.

I get nothing to say this but it';s a solid product.

I do understand what you're saying, but you're talking about some pretty advanced skills to use HTML & PHP to make a landing page.

I know that folks could "Google" it, or buy a class...but that's not the kind of HTML you're talking about. Then there is CSS, PHP....all of that.

              Hi Charles,

Most of what all marketers do requires ONLY HTML and/or CSS and there's nothing that I would consider "advanced" about either.

While PHP can push HTML out to a browser, unless the HTML needs to be dynamically controlled, PHP is just an extra piece of baggage. It will manage data in your database nicely, but a database isn't a requirement for most of what the members here do.

Think about it, most members here ONLY have a database because it is a necessity for WordPress and probably wouldn't even know about PHP's existence if it weren't for the fact that they have chosen to use WordPress.

There is a lot of educational material on the web for either HTML or CSS, so you should probably try to find something that you find easy to digest and with good examples, but I like this site for most people.

              HTML Tutorial

              CSS Tutorial

(They also have a section on Javascript if you decide to delve into that as you learn)

It can be read sequentially, like a text book (a good first step), and it has TOCs in the left sidebar so that it can also be used as a reference to get info for any specific need.

There are examples, but more importantly is their "Try it Yourself" feature. You'll see a button for that on every page, with example code and results to illustrate the usage of any specific topic. When you go to the "Try it Yourself" function, you can change the code on the page, and see the result of your changes on the fly. I think this interactive learning feature speeds up the "aha" moments for anyone just learning - almost like interactive video.

Think about the components of a "landing page".

If it's an optin/lead gen page, you'll need a form and probably the ability to store the data entered to an autoresponder service. Forms are created with standard HTML code, can be styled anyway you like with CSS code, and posting to your autoresponder is automatic.

If your "landing page" is other than an optin/lead gen page, there is probably NOTHING on it that requires any data entry and the elements of the page are reduced to text, images, and links.

                Hi Sid,

Off the top of my head, I would say the most important role php plays in landing pages, besides form submission backend, is a/b testing. Obviously, rolling your own a/b test from scratch is beyond most here, but that could be a use.

                  True enough, but...
                  1. only a minority of vendors split test anything,
                  2. I'd be willing to bet that even fewer affiliates go to the trouble of split testing, and
                  3. the PHP code to control the split testing should only exist in one file, and that file should render the appropriate landing page, based on the criteria you have set.

I love PHP, but it should be used only when needed - NOT as a replacement for HTML/CSS.

You can go to ebay and get an older version of Dreamweaver for less than $50.00, if all you are doing is creating landing and sales pages, this could be the way to go. There are plenty of turorials on google as well as youtube to use this.

You will also learn html skills with this as you will be looking at the code generated.

Well, I know I am new, but I will say the the best Landing Page Creator as of this day (11-2-15) would have to be Click Funnels. I am subscribed to their facebook group and I must say there are a lot of people having issues (with functionality) as I don't feel that all the technical aspects are connected properly. I see little issues here, and little issues there. I have not made the purchase for this tool yet as I feel I can get close to the same thing using WordPress. If you look deep into their ClickFunnel user interface, it is very similar to Wordpress's "Visual Composer." Also, they offer "membership sites" as well, and these membership sites are WordPress with some plugins already setup (Probably setup via WP-CLI on backend). But, even though some of us maybe able to do this without signing up for a complete package, I still would say even with all the quirks and things they are working on, CF is the way to go, because obviously, not everyone has a technical back end.

The easiest way to start is to use a basic template for an html page. You can find hundreds on sites like Open Source Web Design, at no cost - no monthly membership, site licenses, etc.

The layout and basic html is already there, it just needs to be customized. Sid gave some excellent sources for looking up specific requirements ('how do I change the font from blue to red?'). None of it is rocket science, unless you want it to be.

For most, using php will be a matter of uploading the script to their host, then copying/pasting a call to the script into their html page. The page has to be named 'whatever.php' to get the script to run without a lot of messing around under the hosting hood.

      Again, not rocket science.

The same could be said for many javascript applications. Using them requires uploading a text file or copy/paste the script into the page, and adding a call to the script.

In almost all cases, good source sites provide plenty of documentation.

Another thing, at least for me, is that you don't have to immerse yourself in studying html, css, php, javascript, etc. and achieve expert status. You just have to learn enough to follow the directions to do whatever specific thing you want to do. Then you put it away an go back to doing business.

Most of the tasks associated with basic landing pages don't require a lot of time to do what needs to be done. To me, it's better to achieve some independence with that time over spending it trolling Fiverr or one (or more) of the freelancer sites looking for a coder. Better than spending time trolling the plugin directory, or the various sales sites looking for something that might do the job. Far cheaper than paying for a gizmo that does simple things like adding a form to a page, or setting up a buy button.

That's a cool idea, but I went through a few designs on that site and all I can say is this. If I hire you to do a web design and it looks anything like the designs on that site, you will be fired faster then a laser beam.

That same two-step opt-in can be replicated using only html and css, plus a tiny bit of javascript added to the button. And it won't cost you $30/month.

I was looking for a solution for building Landing pages where I don't need to pay a recurring fee.. and so far I have found that Instabuilder (wp plugin) meets most of my needs, I am still testing it out, but it feels like a very solid solution, will report back after few more days of testing.

It's kind of like the free photo or image sites - you have to pan through a lot of mud and gravel to find the gold nuggets. Outside of those, I tend to agree with you.

I usually look for structure that I can tweak with my own images, etc. to make something my own.

I use Get Response ad Wordpress almost exclusively at this point. Why? Both of those sites are at the top of the game imvho.

I use WP Profit Builder, which you can use to do much more than landing pages. Though, ClickFunnels is a more complete system/product, if you can afford the monthly fee.

I used to use leadpages but I switched over to instapage because it's free. Although, leadpages is slightly easier, I find instapage is just as good.
