Separate Domain per Product

Hi all,

Quick question, is having a separate domain per product a good idea or shall i just make pages off my main site?

eg. mydomain/newproduct

or

mynewproduct .com

Have seen major players use a new site each time but not sure of the benefits? either way

Generally, a major product launch will require a new domain.

You can put multiple products on a website, but you would want to brand them under that domain name, like a product line...

    Ex:
    CheesyProducts. Com/Fumunda
    CheesyProducts. Com/Deez
    CheesyProducts .Com/?

    Or

    Sub-domains...

    Fumunda.CheesyProducts. Com
    Deez.CheesyProducts. Com
    ?.CheesyProducts. Com

If your products are non-relevant niches, definitely buy individual domains.

Not sure what value I'd place on that domain name, damn sure won't buy it!

Haha whoops didnt notice the links, have edited.

Thanks for the reply, All products will be in the same forex niche but also looking at a membership site
i guess it could be like this

      mynewproductlaunch .com

      mymembersite .com

i think for a start i will stick with the same domain
      mybrand .com/product1
      mybrand .com/product2
      mybrand .com/members

You can create a membership site and house all your products within that domain.

Naturally, you would have to set access limits, based on what products or content they can access.

Membership sites can get complex (at least my prior attempts were) but if all your products are relative, I would consider the membership site possibilities an determine which route will give you a better return.

  • Membership site is definitely the way to go, imo.

Something to think about if you're trying to decide between using a subdomain or subdirectory:

Subdomains are treated as a separate domain, whereas subdirectories are included as part of the main domain. In other words, subdomains are indexed and treated as if they are a stand-alone site.

If you like the idea of having a separate domain name for each product, though, you could always forward the .com's to your subdomain, and check the box to cloak the subdomain. That would keep all your files in one place, basically, but to visitors it would appear as though it is a standalone site.

If all of the products are related to each other, then just make pages off of your main site. No sense in spending money in unnecessary domain fees. Step 1 is getting a sale in the first place.

It depends how you're promoting them.

If you're internally launching them to your list, having them all on one domain is fine.

If you're launching them on ClickBank or something, that's when having independent URLs pays off.
