I have an ebook and sales copy ... now what?

Here's the deal - a couple of months ago I wrote a sales letter for a client who was selling a weight loss guide. Because I'm fairly new to copywriting, I offered to do it on commission.

After I created the copy, the client dropped the ball on the marketing end, threw her hands up in the air, and offered me the rights to her book as a way to pay me for my time.

I think the weight loss guide is pretty good. I think the copy I wrote for it is good, but I don't know the ins and outs of internet marketing and I don't want to throw a lot of cash away on this.

Plus, the client never provided me with testimonials or before-and-after pictures. There's no way this thing will sell without them.

Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about going over to the JV forum and trying to find a good marketer to help me in exchange for a share of the profits.

    Ideas:
    • Sell it as a PLR e-book
    • Find a JV
    • Promote affiliate offers within the same niche and have it as a bonus

    Who's to say it's any good compared to the rest of the competition anyway? The weight loss industry is fiercely competitive to say the least...

    Finally, even if the copy wasn't the best, it's all about testing what works

    Sell it on Sitepoint as a package (website, sales copy, ebook in pdf and doc format) for $395. Or, start marketing the site and start getting some revenue coming in. List the book with Clickbank and start getting affiliates to sell it for you.

    There are a lot of options. Question is, do you want the money now, or can you wait and let it build?

      Yeah, I don't need the money right now. Actually, I'm really curious about how well this copy will convert if I get the rest of the puzzle pieces in place.

      Great tip about selling everything as a package. I'll keep that in mind.

    Hmm, it's kinda hard to say without knowing more. If you've positioned yourself really well, it might be possible to get some JV partners on board. But that's gonna be pretty hard to do.

    Copy is important, but unless you have some great marketing surrounding it, it's going to be hard to sell lots of it. If you're focusing on building your copywriting business, I'd just stick to that.

    However, if getting into info marketing is something you've wanted to do for a while, then you might want to try and learn a few more things.

    Let me know if you need a few more ideas or some clarification.

    I've seen a lot of those types of packages sell over there for $395. I bet that if you add a blog with a bout 5-10 posts, you can get $495 or more.

    If you dont need the money right away, drive traffic to the site. Once you get some revenue coming in, you can keep the site or flip it for some good money.

      If all you're missing is some testimonials then I would create a squeeze page, drive traffic to it through article marketing (or your preferred method) and offer people a free copy or at least the first couple chapters in exchange for signing up for your list.

      Then, once they've had a chance to experience it, ask them for their testimonials. You'll get a few responses that you can easily use.

      After you've built up a little bit of viral reputation and have some social proof, start charging for the product.

      The great part about this method is that you're simultaneously building a list and promoting your product all at once.

      You won't make money immediately from it, but long term it will definitely pay off.

      Since you don't need the money right now and you are interested in knowing how well your sales copy will convert, here are some other suggestions:

      "Extract" articles from the ebook.
      Create a squeeze page.

      Do article marketing. (Post articles to your blog, directories, etc)
      Have links in your articles pointing to a squeeze page or sales page.

      Write a free short report based on the ebook. (Free report should have links to ebook sales page).
      Create a free ecourse. (ecourse lessons should have links to ebook sales page).
      Send traffic to your squeeze page to build a list.
      Prospects opt-in to get free ecourse and/or report.

      Create a video.
      At end of video put link to sales page.

      Your list of options goes on and on.

      The above suggestions are not in any particular order, you can start with any.

      And don't forget to split-test your sales copy.

    Set up a webpage - whack up a Paypal button and drive traffic.

    Focus on driving traffic and fine tuning your conversion page.
