When should you start charging?

Hi i have been running a betting tips website for 3 months that currently gives people a free email subscription to my sports betting tips and coaching. At what stage in my business should i consider charging for this service either yearly or monthly?

At the moment your tips have value for the receivers of your mail.

Annually or monthly depends on the amount of money.

Under 20$ I would do it annually, but that is just me.

wait at least more people get to register themselves into that account. If your predictions comes right in high percentage they will trust you, they will depend on you. Then start charging and they will have no other option. Or you can give somebody a full months free subscription then start charging them. you can charge monthly or after every two months.

I would look to charge from the start (assuming its a quality service).

Alongside this I would offer a free trail to tempt people to start using the service. Prove the concept works and they'll want to renew.

Another option would be to offer a premium and free service. On the free service you could give less fancied bets and tease your naps. Another way to incentivise people to go premium would be to get the bet early for premium members.

This should give them the best chance to get a good price and avoid the price wise effect

You should charge from the day 1. That's exactly what I did with my dating advice site. Make sure you have a catchy headlines and give away some really appealing information, then add a content locker that invites users to pay in order to unlock the content.

Your customers really have to be hooked, because they may only be using your service because of the fact that it's free, and if you suddenly start charging they can always look for another provider. If you know that your customers are very loyal and feel like they NEED your tips, then you are all set to start charging.

Why not offer a free version with Clickbank recommendations and less data, and a paid one with no affiliate recs and the full data?

Still give your free tips, but do not give as many of them. Start a small subscription service for full access along with tons of other bonuses for their subscriptions.

A bonus could be anything you want like - "Locks of the week" or whatever.

Actually I think yearly charge is the best way. It may really haste to pay every months. Thanks a lot.

You could continue offering your tips for free, though instead offer one. After the first tip, you can offer monthly packages through your email list. I do not know your industry, though you could offer multiple tips per week and have a package for 1 tip, another package for 5 tips and a final package for 10 tips for example.

    What's your record?

uhm NOW! Why are you waiting? When people buy something they hold it as more value to them and will use it and review it. When it is free you will see people dont pay as close attention to it.

I think it would be a bad idea to do that. My advice is to capitalize on your success by offering a paid service or product your target market needs. For example lets say you offer them a way to manage their bets or something thats not quite out their currently. If you start charging what will happen is people will get turned off and start spreading word of mouth that you are some how you are baiting them in to your site for something they did for free before. I know what you do takes time and energy but you know your market better then any one here because you run the operation. So start looking at your competitors and find a niche that no one else is offering. Basically solve your audiences problems with a product or service they are not able to get. Yes this takes a little time and thinking but if you do the right thing the rewards will be great.

i would say -start charging so long as you are profitable!!! people will be quite happy so long as you charge a 'fair' monthly fee and you help them make money--so for example if you wanted to charge 100pcm this would be quite high and outside most people reach and you could only justify this with a very high number of points profit at the end of each month.....
