Anyone use this software? If it works it would help me immensly, because I really do type much slower than I think.
I could win a gold medal for talking, so i'm guessing it could make me more productive.

thanks in advance.

I do and it works like a charm!
You have to go through a 15-30 min sample reading(that they provide) to get your voice analyzed by its voice recognition software, after that it writes whatever you say

    Hope this helps!

You do have to train it a lot. Like a Dragon, once you make friends with it, it will be an awesome ally, but you do have to win it over first.

I lOVE it.... I didn't have to train it much at all. I am sure it depends on your accent, dialect, etc...

No doubt. I have an odd accent, enunciation, etc. Wouldn't be a good candidate for a radio show, lol.

Suspected that but it shows you how good the software is to be able to learn....

It is amazing all you can do with it...

Even if you can touch type, I still think you will prefer Dragon after you've used it for a while. Sure, it makes the odd mistake, but the speed at which you can dictate more than makes up for it.

I have been considering this because my typing is pants!!

Does it work with open office?

Where is the cheapest place to buy it / get it?

I have it and I hate it. It actually hinders me rather than helps me. It's not that I'm a lighting fast typer, it's just that I think while I type. Whereas, if I try to use Dragon, I just sit there and draw a blank.

    Danny:

I'm pretty sure it works with Open Office, but double check that. I got mine cheap on eBay, but a word of caution, absolutely, positively, make sure it is a LEGITIMATE copy. You have people who are selling pirated copies there and then when you try to put in the registration code, it will tell you that the registration code has exceeded its number. They sell a bootleg copy and give everyone the same registration code.

I had the same problem. I think it's just a question of what you're familiar with. I think if you continued to use Dragon you'd eventually get the hang of it; that's been the case with me.

I am a huge fan of Dragon Naturally Speaking. If you shop around you may be able to find a deal but what ever you end up paying, it's worth every penny.

My typing speed is approx. 45 wpm. With DNS I'm more than twice as fast and it's fun to use.

  • I have it and sometimes it acts like Mad Libs. Mad Libs (for those of you who never heard of it, is a grammar game where you have a scripting book. The script intentionally has blanks where certain types of words are missing and you fill in the blanks.

For example, the phrase, "The cat stood by the door and meowed to be let inside the house." Is changed to "The (noun) stood by the (noun) and (exclamation) to be let inside the (noun.) A person unable to see the script is asked to call out random nouns, exclamations, verbs, adverbs, etc. and the scrip is filled in with those arbitrary words. Then, the one writing the words in the blanks reads aloud the absurd story. It often comes out really funny and it's a great way to learn the parts of speech.

My Dragon is like that. My husband is also a writer and he works with me to check articles. He can tell when I've been using Dragon. I will type something and don't proofread it. He'll come back to me or I suddenly hear him laughing in the other room when he's proofing my work because the phrase comes out with something that makes absolutely no sense because the software phonetically sounds out ot the best of it's ability what it thinks you said. It matches words in it's database to what seems logical to this piece of non-human software

For example, one time I was writing an article and the software types, "Ninjas eat mustard and that microphone tells it all." The sentence fragment was supposed to be, "and you must remember that article marketing helps all..." So, if you get this great software, make sure somebody is proofreading what you write, just to make sure some ninja with mustard on his face doesn't suddenly pop out of nowhere in your content!

When I use it, it types 2-3 times faster than I type. But another drawback to using it is that it's a licensed user product. You pay once for the license, but you've got to be online to use it.

After a while using it, you'll fill up the buffer (or at least I do.) It will say that in an error message. So, what I do is I sign off and then sign back on again.

I got it really inexpensively at Amazon. I think I saved probably 60 bucks buying it through Amazon. I would definitely buy Dragon over any of the others out there because it really is the best in my personal experience...mustard-faced ninjas and all!

I have used the DSN but I must have a terrible accent or something because even after training it for hours I still had to spend so much time explaining to it what I wanted to say it was quicker to type it. But the idea is great and one day (when I am not so busy, haha) IT and I will sit down and have a serious chat and I will see if I can get IT on the same page as me

One of the biggest unmentioned advantages to using DNS is that it allows you to communicate in a completely different temper than you are used to with typing. Check it for yourself and you will see that you talk differently in type than you do in speech.

In marketing this is especially beneficial because people want to hear from people, not marketer hype. DNS makes you sound way more like a friend
