membership site setup

I am redoing a membership site. Mainly it will contain MRR and PLR products. I hope to use RAP for the setup, combined with wordpress.

The price point will be in the neighborhood of $14 to $19.

Question:

Would you use a trial offer?

Would you go with free to paid?

Or straight to paid?

Thanks

Kelvin

Do you remove products after certain period?

Not too such what is your business model. If you offer a trial, and when I get in and download everything, is there any other benefit for me to stay on ? I know you might add new stuff along the way, but it is worth paying then

If your site provide premium stuff that you know people will continue, trial is fine. Else, i suppose accept an initialize payment will be a better choice. Unless collecting list is another thing that you have in mind.

      Hi Johnny,

If the program works as I want, you will only be able to get a certain amount of info using dripfeed method. If not, then I will implement, a strategy, to give bonuses for length of time as a member.

Yes, i will be using it for list building, but not so much for freebies, the low fee is to qualify buyers, that I could also market higher value products as well.

I would use a $1 trial, rather than a free one. You'll be able to take your customers right into a full price subscription without having to ask for payment info this way, and you'll get a higher quality "trial taker" because they'll need to put in their credit card info.

    Kelvin,

I am going to go with Dave and Alex on this. The $1 trail for 7 days seems to work well (weeds out most of the tire kickers), then upgrade to the recurring billing. If you are going with RAP for the front end, The PayPal add on will handle PayPal beautifully.

For the blog, I would recommend Memberwing. It works with RAP for managing the blog for subscriptions and cancellations.

    Thanks,

    John

    Hi John,

RAP has something that will work with wordpress, but it did not go into detail, so I asked their support for more info. There is a RAP plugin also that is available, which I asked them about. RAP Member Plugin

Waiting on response. I just sent it this morning.

If the script will do upsell, and downsell, it seems to me a better option is to go with a short trial, $1 - $4.95. Full access or nearly full upon trials end.

However, if they cancel before end of trial kick them down to an unadvertised free level. Thereby keeping them in the loop, as to what they missed out on.

This will also help affiliates, as there recruiting may not be all lost if some actually come back in at the paid level.

    Your thoughts?

First I'm new so what do I know! But it seems to me that you may as well give them a free taster then go straight for the full membership. The $1 bit has always made me think, no I'm not going to fill all that in to pay $1 so I just click away.

    Hey Kelvin,

I had forgot about the RAP plugin. I had beta tested it and saw it working on another site. It's definitely an option.

RAP with the PayPal addon will handle what you are wanting with the trial to recurring billing at different prices, along with everything else.

    Good choice on using it.

    Thanks,

    John

    John,

I am getting the RAP premium which includes the membership bundle.

The only question is, is are the wordpress functions I want built in, or do i need the additional script. RAP Member Plugin

Is that the one that you helped beta test?

Did you ever receive an answer re: the RAP Member Plugin?

What did you decide to go with, with your Membership site and how is it working?

      Hi Z and John

RAP recently released a new wordpress integration tool.
Rap is great, however I now have to rethink my original approach, slightly.

Sorry, I forgot to get back to this one.

There's a WordPress plugin that will integrate with the members add on to do blog set ups. Very nice.

Also, there's a Kunaki add on close to being finished. Had a lot of people asking for it, so it's coming.

    Thanks,

    John

I would use the $1 trial for sure! This has been tested repeatedly with amazing results.

I would test both a 7-day trial and a 14-day trial that leads them into the monthly membership. The key here is that you must provide overwhelming value for that $1 trial in order to get them into your funnel. You want to make trying out your monthly membership a no-brainer (because they're getting a crazy amount of value just for trying it out.) You've got to pack on the value.

I would also strongly recommend that you use a video sales letter to sell the $1 trial (which leads into the monthly continuity.) I've been testing video sales letters a lot lately and they are converting like crazy!

My last video sales letter converted at 8% for a $97 product. Very powerful.

    Hope this helps!

      Hi Kim

Thanks for the response, I will be setting everything up hopefully this week. Because of where I live time is limited online. But, I am opening a small office in downtown muskogee, where I will spend more time, without online barriers of the library.

    Thanks for the update Kelvin.

I'm planning to purchase RAP Member Plus in the next week through John. He's provided me great help and information pre-purchase.

So what is the WP integration tool and are you using it? Is it the Wordpress membership plugin you mentioned above?

I would be interested in learning how your process is going. I'm planning on a membership site but no-where near ready for it yet. I'm Looking to start off with selling my products and affiliate products with RAP.

Looking forward to learning more from you.

    Thanks,

    Hi Zanti,

the wordpress addon I went with, is an upgrade to the one mentioned above. You can see it at: WP Integration Pack for RAP Membership Plus

The script can be simple or very powerful when integrated with RAP membership addon.

    Hi Kelvin,

I would start with the $1 trial as it weeds out a lot of people who would have no intention of paying anyway.

As long as you have some value-adding content you should see most people paying the full price once the trial is up.

    Good luck!

Just curious of why you chose RAP? I am using Amember on one of my sites and it works great. I have never heard of RAP before this thread so I was wondering if it had some huge advantage. ITs $100 more than amember. I too am using wordpress.

The advantage that RAP has is it's currently the only real solution if you want instant commissions. RAP splits the sale between the site admin and affiliates so each time there is a sale either the admin will be paid or the affiliate will, depending on whose turn it is and the commission percentage set up for the product.

This means you don't have to manually pay affiliates or worry about dealing with the IRS for US based affilates.

Also RAP, like wordpress, is setup so any enterprizing programmer or marketer paying a program can come up with additional addons to solve future problems.

I also think there a limit on domains with amember isn't there. RAP can go on any domain you own (no limit).

  • If I am curious about the value of a membership site I prefer the 14 day trial period for a few reasons:

    1. I have a few days to review the site and see if it is a good fit
    2. The 14 day period also allows me to determine if the value is worth the ongoing investment
    3. A lot can be determined with the 14 day period as to the potential for ongoing value

We live in a "try before you buy" world. When we satisfy that need for the consumer we are more likely to develop more responsive customers who invest more over the long run.

The price is so cheap as it is, I would not do a trial offer unless the price point was higher. I have had great luck with the $1 trial then 14 days latter they get billed $97 per month after that.

When the price is cheaper its just an impulse buy at best.
