They grab the List names, they upsell, they make the sale - Rant

Hi guys,

For some months I have been trying to make sales with weight loss info products, you know the ones.

I have a 3 sites network, all content related, 100 visitors per day in network, and some 10 hops per day. I'd say not bad to get at least a couple sales per week, right?

WRONG: I have what, 3 sales in one year. It's Shameful.

So before i kill these sites or sell them, or splash adsense on them i decided to check if the product owners I am promoting right now (top 3 ones according to CB marketplace) are building their lists and excluding me - the affiliate - of the sales funnel.

And YES they are.

They offer free reports, they get visitors in sales funnel and they cash in.

Bye Bye Affiliate commission.

That's not the ONLY explanation to my poor performance - I understand that. But it's freaking anoying to check on them and see how they get those high gravity numbers.

Fernando

This is one of the reasons I go with my own products rather than promoting affiliate products. I don't think a lot of vendors really value their affiliates very much and don't treat them as they should be treated. I'd jump ship on those vendors if I were you.

I agree I wouldn't spend any time promoting for anyone that uses those tactics.

    And therein lies your answer.

Grab yourself some suitable PLR, create a free
    report, squeeze page, autoresponder sequence
    and build yourself a list.

Grab some more PLR and create a better product
    to compete with them.

If this is a problem, sell your own product instead. More money for you.

Clickbank's cookie tracking doesn't work like that. Unless the vendor is actively overwriting your affiliate cookie with their's then you still get credit when they buy. Obviously you miss out on some such as when they clear cookies or whatever.

I agree w/ Andy - Just because a vendor has an opt-in doesn't automatically mean that you as an affiliate are out of the sales loop. I have several clickbank products set up so that my affiliates actually get credit for some upsales that happen if they send people to my list. So in other words my affiliates are actually making more money w/ my opt in form as compared to what they'd make w/ a competing similar product w/ out the opt-in.

It's very important when deciding on a product to promote, to follow the sales process yourself. Watch the cookie and the products being promoted, and see for yourself if you're being cut out of the loop. An opt in form is not automatically a bad thing when choosing a product to promote. - Remember, sign up to the opt in yourself and then see if your cookie is still there when they promote the product to you via email. If it is, then there's no reason why you shouldn't promote it.

But if they don't have an opt-in, it isn't an issue at all. Fortunately, there's no shortage of products without an opt-in on the sales page, for affiliates to select from.

Perhaps not "automatically". But the absence of an opt-in, for many of us, is automatically a good thing.
It really shouldn't be. I'd far rather promote a product where the vendor is actively capturing those leads and attempting to sell to them repeatedly than just letting that traffic wander off if they're not interested at the time.

Even better when they've got other products that I can earn commissions on without any additional effort but they are a lot rarer.

I'm not going to say that you're wrong in thinking that, but I can say it's not always automatically a good thing. There are some merchants out there that can just about double an affiliate's conversion rate with their opt - in form.

If you have a merchant that is collecting emails and giving the affiliate upsales with it, then not only does it save the affiliate time, but it saves them the money it would cost them to maintain their own list for that site.

I'm just saying - It's always best to test before making any assumptions. Just because you like your way, doesn't alway mean that it's always the best way.

I personaly prefer to work with vendors with a good backend process in place. As pointed out, you should still get the commissions and make a lot more money for your efforts.

If it's a CB product, you will get a commission on any product the vendor sells - as long as it's from the same cb account. It's pretty simple to test - follow your aff link to the sale spage, and opt-in. Click on any links they send out to that list, then click on the buy button and check for your affiliate ID on the CB checkout page.

For the record - I've tried numerous times to promote fatloss 4 idiots and other CB weightloss products.. I also buit a site for someone else promoting a very popular CB weightloss product. I made maybe 2 sales for the year, and she made 1 (and she had her own actual before/after pics). I've NEVER promoted anything else with such terrible results. It's a shame, as the weightloss & muscle gain niches are ones I actually have a passion for and tons of knowledge in!

    hey, guys (and girls)
if affiliates hate losing sales due to owner building a list, perhaps there is a payment processor that, once user enters their name and email, connects the data with affiliate database, so affiliates get commission from people who've opted in and bought later down the road? If there's no such thing, it would be cool to create a service that works like this

    Thanks for your input Warriors.

Decided to remove all vendors and replace them with just one product, no opt-ins in this one. Also, I did a upgrade in the sites: new header, review style design.

    Hope it helps the convertions.

^^ You guys (and girls) Rock. Thanks.
