Running a contest, suggestions how to make $$ from it.

Hey,

I'm starting a training business were I offer in person weekend seminars and long term coaching. (later I plan on creating an informational product also)

I was planning on running a contest where I give away some free electronics or gift cards for members who enter my contest. I plan a video on youtube talking about the contest details and linking to my website (my youtube video additional videos on the topic I specialize in.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can convert this traffic of would be contest contestants? (people who are interesting winning a free camera, etc....)

Or has any done something like this before?

    When they get on the list do a 7 day follow up sequence where you introduce yourself and try to sell them on the idea on day 7. After the contest ends I usually just mail biz ops, pay day loans, car insurance, or any other cpa offer I think they might want (dump anybody who converted off obviously.)

    Protip: depending on your ethics, you might want everybody to somehow win, then send them all to pay 4 surveys.

    Note: I don't do 1 on 1 coaching, or anything that has my name on it, so this might not be the best idea.

    You have to understand that with a free giveaway, you are going to get a flood of people who just want the chance to win and couldn't care less about you or your service. I have only done this in the past as either a way to get some links to my site (contact all the free contest websites and get a link) or to build up a mailing list very quickly. In both situations, after the contest ends, I want them to either buy/do something, or go away.

    Would you rather 1000 cold visitors who care about winning a free iPad, or 50 targeted visitors that want to read your content?

    Rather than spending money on a random giveaway, craft some amazingly valuable content for your niche and at the least, use the money you would have spent to get it in front of people that would care.
