Overwhelmed with online traffic techniques

It seems to me these days that a lot of people who are doing really well online teach others a lot of techniques that they are using to drive traffic--->leads---->sales.

Some say that they are not spending any money on ads and are using free techniques like YouTube marketing and other social media places like Facebook.

Some say that free ads is not the way to go and ALL they do is PAID ads. (Solo ads, banner ads, pay per click, Facebook pay per click, twitter pay per click, an so on).

I really think that for someone new, this can be really overwhelming because they don't know which way to go. Again some say that free is the way to go and others say paid is the way to go.

Plus, every week some new "guru" launches a new product that teaches the newest technique that no one has ever heard about. That is how you overwhelm someone who is new or has just struggled to get any traffic to their website.

Personally, for someone new, I only recommend that they do paid ads because the results are INSTANT. Which paid ad places are worth it for YOU???? This is something that EACH individual has to test to find out.

    Certainly testing is always a good idea and should be done on a small scale so that variables can be optimized first before you spend larger amounts.

    But to me, ad places that are effective will vary by niche, by market, and by the type of product or service that you are offering.

    And because of that fact, I would recommend that the marketer do his advertising where targeted niche buyers with money in hand can be found. For many niches, that will be at niche authority sites, niche portals, niche forums, authority niche blogs, etc.

    Try to get your offer or link on the highest ranking niche sites. IMO, these are the places where your offer will be exposed to the exact niche proponents that you are targeting.

    As a place to start, go free and go where your audience is. If they hang out on forums often, go there. If they like pinterest, post there. If they prefer instagram, that's your starting point.

    Each traffic hub has a dominant demographic, so start with the one your niche fits into.

    For example, if you were in the niche of Bakery, pinterest would be a good starting point.

    Facebook and Twitter traffic can be slow. If you want instant traffic now then the paid option is for you.

    The two sources of traffic are indeed:

    1. Paid--you pay in coins
    2. Free-you pay in time.

    What is tricky about paid traffic is you can easily lose a lot
    of money if you don't know how to do this well.

    What is tricky about free traffic is that you can lose a lot
    time if you don't know how to do this well.

    Take your pick.

    For me, paid traffic done right is the better of the two.

    What do you mean by "free ads?" CL, free classifieds. etc.?

    It's a trade off, really. You either pay with money or time. I find that paying (for advertising) with money produces a far better ROI.

    I like paid for one main reason. Time is money. I can test out my offer really fast to see if it's something the market is interested. The faster I know this info, the faster I can make decisions that'll make me money.

    I like paid traffic. Takes time to learn but much faster. Once you figure out paid you can scale up. Test small first and find what works. Get rid of what doesn't. If you have no budget, either get a job to pay for traffic or do free traffic sources to get some income.

    As great as paid advertising can be, (I know how powerful it can be)

    Not EVERYBODY in this business can come up with a random $300+ for a paid advertising campaign.

    The risk is also a lot tougher.

    For a product seller like myself, I know that most newbies are too afraid to go after a risky paid ad campaign, so sometimes my goal is just to help get them to epxerience getting traffic to make money to then reinvest in a paid ad if they want.

    I've made my fair share of WSOs on traffic, I know that what I teach works.

    But basically, I will always stand behind the idea that free traffic is the way to go for myself and my goals online.

    If you have the free time for it... do some free marketing. Some businesses online make virtually all their money through forum marketing. Some still do with article marketing. But in general, for fast traffic and niche testing.... i would do some PPC lead generation advertising. You could spend 3 months building a site and making it pretty - only to find out that nobody wants what your site has to offer. It's a devastating feeling. Always test first to make sure that your niche is responsive. The fastest way to do this is with paid advertising.

    Nowdays, I don't think that anybody can afford them self to go for free traffic methods..
    Free traffic methods are the most expensive at the end.. If you are an entrepreneur, you simply are not rich enough to afford your self slow growth.. Ask your self: do you want to grow your business fast or slow? I think you gave your self an answer.. So, advice for all newbies: don't waste time on bulding your business slowely..you will lose focus with not making money, and you will quit most probably.. If you make money quick, that will keep you in business, and you will be better end better.. so conclusion is: go for paid traffic methods defnitelly

    I agree that ppc is the way to go because not only do you get faster results, but you can usually get free bonuses for your campaign such as spend $25 get $100 worth of free clicks on Adwords. Bing runs a similar promotion. This way hopefully you can start making money before you have to start paying out.

    op- maybe paid traffic is good for you, but you have to consider that people on this forum come from many different countries. sometimes 5-20 dollars is a full days wages for certain people and they can't afford paid traffic. so in this instance, you are terribly wrong.

    the very first thing i will always recommend people on this forum with or without money is the free traffic methods like facebook or youtube or reddit or seo on their website etc.. if their traffic converts, then scale and invest in paid traffic sources

    internet marketing isn't as simple as stating that paid traffic sources are the best. there are a alot of factors that lead to success in what we do and paid traffic sources is at the bottom of the list in my opinion.

      I never said that. I said that whether you are using free or paid, you have to find out what is working well for you.

      There are some guys on YouTube that are doing really well with video marketing in the home business niche and are teaching their students to do the same. While taking all the actions that are taught, not everyone gets any results.

      Same thing with paid traffic.

      You have to find out for yourself what is working for you and what isn't.

    we really have to test things out, because even when people are selling their formula to success as a wso, we never know if it will work for us or not, until we test that out. Unless we give/ sell the exact money machine itself that's originally producing money

    The problem with going with Paid ads is that different paid ads sources have different LEARNING CURVES.

    Sadly, YOU Have to pay for your learning curve and it can be quite BRUTAL if you don't have much starting capital.

    This is why I recommend FREE traffic.

    With Free traffic, your investment is YOUR TIME.

    The fact is, MOST newbies have more time than CASH.

    You just have to test and see which method works for you. However based on my experienced it is difficult to get conversions using free traffic methods. If you check out the top IM earners, they spend thousands on Adverts and solo ads. Even if you create a youtube video, you still have to spend some money to get it ranked on Youtube and Google.
