Is targeting two target audiences a bad idea?

After a long time and many failed ideas, I have come up with a niche which I think is pretty solid. The problem is, it has two potential audiences.

One audience is the niche's subject, the other is a group of people who have influence over the other. I can't decide which one to target, if I have to choose at all.

If I have to choose, what qualities should I research and target? I have found out that one audience has a higher spending power, as they (usually) have a higher salary than the other and tend to have more financial freedom. However the other audience seems to search for a solution to my niche's problem more often (maybe a 60-40 split).

Thanks.

If you can see that one of the needs your product more than the other, I'd start there.

Spending power would be a good place to look as well but if it's something that don't need or what they still won't buy it just because they can.

It would help to know what you are talking about but that's the best advice I can give without knowing.

    Hope that helps.

How about targeting them both? Not at the same time, of course.

So you build one website and campaign for one audience and then another one for the other.

Then you can compare the results objectively.

    OK, thanks for the input.

I like the sound of comparing the results, at least to start, then I can focus on one of them and abandon the other.

As for will they buy it, the group with the larger spending power are probably more likely to purchase this product, but I'll have to research that a bit more.

Thanks for the input guys, I guess I should aim to focus on one audience then. Now is time to research which one!

Whoever you can provide the most value too and therefore, whoever is in the most need.

Stick to one is my advise to you. But if you feel unconvinced by this, what i can suggest is to do a series of tests to see which group is more receptive to your product and stick to them from that point on.

It has been shown statistically that holding onto multiple groups of targets will yield lower returns than focusing on one in the long term.

Do this one first. Make money in one niche/audience, and then conquer the other one - after only proving that the niche is in fact profitable.

Go after the one specific audience that qualifies the most...

And speak directly to them by pointing out all of their problems.

Then, that's where the solution will come in.
