Can you sell a website for the traffic alone?

Do you think there is a market out there for websites with a steady stream of traffic?

My website has kept getting 5000 visitors per month for the last few years just sitting there gathering dust.

The money I make doesn't come through the site, at least not enough to justify keeping it if someone wants to try monetizing the traffic.

I don't have time for it now, and getting emails, comments, and making sure it's updated is getting on my nerves.

So do you think people would invest in a site for traffic alone?

You can certainly offer it on a marketplace like Flippa, though with no proven or obvious monetisation method, I can't imagine it doing too well.

Another option is to attempt to monetise the site through advertisements, though most companies will be looking for more than 5000.

Are you building a list with it? Are you making any money with your website?

Can you answer these 2 questions.

If you are making sales and money on auto-pilot, why does it get on your nerves?

      Tal,

The money comes from Kindle, so don't need the site. I have emails in a CSV file, but I stopped building list when I moved my eBook to Kindle.

It gets on my nerves because of the reasons I mentioned.

Anyway, good to know it might sell. I might throw it on Flippa if I can't do something with the traffic this weekend, but don't want to waste any more time on it.

    Hey Jamie,

I wouldn't be surprised if you start getting PM inquiries.

    Simply Don't do it

You can but they will cut your price in half, specially on sites like flippa, monetize it then sell it, people pay more attention to numbers

    You can sell it.

It won't be worth as much as you think but you CAN sell it.

If you're already getting traffic, I suggest you figure out how to ADD VALUE to your site by monetizing it.

After you're making money CONSISTENTLY, look to sell it.

yes, traffic is expensive when you sell it.. better monetize it a bit before selling it just to show the traffic converts.
