Web hosting industry is vast and highly competitive. You have to be provide better services and customer support. It will take time, money and human resources as well.

Are you going to have your own servers, internet backbone, peering and so on ?

Or do you intend to resell the services of others ?

If it's the first option you'll deep deep pockets.

If it's the second option, then you'll need something extraordinary to stand out from the huge crowd of companies and people already doing this.

Web hosting is so commoditised now that I think it's really hard to be successful in a new venture with all of the intense competition that already exists.

    Hey mate,

No one can tell you "if it's going to be profitable or not". That's up to you obviously.

It's going to take a lot of money though, that's for sure..

You may want to do a bit of research first.

I'm fine with godaddys user interface when it comes to managing my domains, but not when it comes to their hosting. In the process now of moving a client away from them.

I just want it my own way
The problem with this is you are under the assumption that your own way will be the best. In the end, it's not going to be about you and how you like things but how your customer/clients like things - which could be totally different if you're not careful to research first.

I am assuming you are going to be offering reseller hosting as a large investment is required to set up quality and high-uptime dedicated servers.

Regarding your website and the functionality though, you will have to outlay the initial cost to pay the designer and programmer; however, some people will appreciate the functionality.

That being said, the main reasons I choose a host are speed and customer support. I've never really worried about the user interface much because if it was too bad, I could simply ask the customer support team to help me out.

I worry that this will not be a strong enough USP for your business to leverage fully, yet I'm not in the business of hosting, so don't take that as gospel.

Hosting is also an extremely competitive market. Unless you have experience running a business in a competitive field, I would recommend starting somewhere easier.

I can only tell you what Max Planck told Einstein when he was pursuing gravity and relativity....

"Don't do it. It's too hard"

BUT... i'm an IT guy (that's my background). So i know the hurdles that are ahead of you. Honestly, you need staff, and it's not exactly the kind of business that you can "set and forget" like selling ebooks or affiliate marketing.

You can have most of it automated with staff (and money), and then monitor them, but... i'd rather pursue a money-making path that is easier to make money in.

    Just my 2 Benjamins.
