A really genius Amazon Exit Popup that I saw on a website.

I am looking for a plugin that I saw used on an Amazon affiliate website which was really genius! If you select a product to check the price of, it takes you to the Amazon site in a new window,

The plugin starts working when you close the window at the Amazon site and an exit popup shows up with the Item you were looking at, and you are asked, "Did You Find The Right Product". There are two buttons, a Yes and No button, No, says, "No I'm Still Looking" and Yes, says "Yes, I Found It". If you select No, a Search Bar drops down that allows you to search Amazon for any product, and if you select Yes, a message drop down saying "Spread The Word" showing social buttons.

Here is the website of this working plugin: BestToyReviews2014/2015. Can anyone tell me the plugin used or how this is done on this website?

If you look at the source of the site you will find.

    <link rel='stylesheet' id='speedo_popup_default-css' href='http://www.bestkidstoyreviews.com/wp-content/plugins/rngzn/speedo/skins/default/default.css?ver=1.1' type='text/css' media='all' />

I'm guessing it's the speedo popup, I don't use this, so I'm not 100% sure.

    WordPress Speedo Popup - Lightbox

To be honest, I personally think this "genius" popup is pretty annoying.

Perhaps to you it may be annoying but I see it as trying to be helpful in the shopping experience! No different than a clerk in the store asking you if you found everything you were looking for when leaving. That's really not offensive to me.

I see it as a soft way of trying to be helpful, and I'm sure some would not mind it, while yes I know, others would call it annoying. But on the other hand it definately will help conversions, which is the bottom line!

What I really hate is insulting popups! Like: "NO, I'm Insane For Not Wanting This Once In A Lifetime Offer" (and Not Buying The Crap I Don't Need Or Will Ever Want!!!) It wasn't something I was searching for in the first place!

NOBODY gets any pleasure in being insulted by not doing what the merchant wants you to do....
The difference is when a customer tells you what he is looking for (through his search) and you try to help him find what he really is looking for that is also related to his search. That's what I call genius.

I don't see how this pop-up helps the buying experience.

If they did find the right product, then how does spreading the word about it helps the buying experience?

If they didn't find it, how useful is presenting them the search bar? People could have done that by themselves if they really wanted to do.

Much better options would be some form of quick feedbaack where the prospect could tell you why they didn't find it or what they didn't like about the product, like the price being too high, not enough product detail, etc. Something that would make you make a change for a better buying experience.

As I see it now, it's not very different from an exit pop-up on a Clickbank sales page that tries to push you into doing something you don't really want to. It makes you look more needy than helpful.

Understood . . . and yes, to each his own.

Don't mistake the purpose of this popup or any other. They are not there to be helpful. They are there to make money.

Whether they actually induce a positive shopping experience - or a negative one - will depend upon the viewer. For me personally, popups take my time and control of my screen away from me (even if only for seconds) and I don't like that. Obviously, others could care less.

That's what they want you think when they sell you the plugin.

First of all who needs a pop-up to say "Are you done shopping?". What was your first clue? When I closed the tab?

No matter what they do or how they respond to the pop-up, it does not take the customer back to the Amazon site.

It asks for a Facebook share instead of just closing when you say "I'm done"- annoying. Nobody likes a share soliciting pop-up .

If you say "I'm not done" it asks for a search term and pops-up results in a crappy little window that does not look like Amazon. And from what I have seen from trying a few search terms, pretty untargeted results.

If the person was browsing and closed the Amazon tab then it should be fairly obvious they have nothing specific in mind they are looking for. They are most likely browsing, or finished looking at the specific item you linked to. Offering a search box is not helpful in this situation.

If, instead , it simply restored the closed tab when someone clicked "No. I'm not done" it might work better. This would return the person to where they were where they could buy the item they were just looking at or to keep browsing.

If they were looking at an item and closed the window too quickly and thought "Oops, I think maybe I wanted to buy that", the pop-up does not return them to that point where they can continue the transaction they started.

And the search by the pop-up is unlikely to return the product they were looking at in the results.

Amazon is great at selling and providing access to other items that may appeal. The pop-up does none of these.

The pop-up is incongruous with a typical Amazon shopping experience.

But you could test it and see if it adds 0.00237% to your conversion rates.
