I couldn't have said it better discrat. Personally I would learn to become a good writer if I want to become a pro blogger and only outsource when I dont' have the time to write.

You can get ides for your post here like I do myself mostly in the Q&A threads.

I'm going to suggest that if you can't write, and don't want to outsource or learn the craft, that you not try to make money from blogging.

        There, I said it.

Why persist with something that you can't or don't want to do? Why spend months or more likely years learning something that hasn't interested you so far? There are tons of other ways to make money online!

Choose a business model and strategy that you can do right now.

Great writing is both an art and a learned skill. Sure, you can get better at writing over time . . . but is that what you want to focus on right now?

Find something that you can do well and get at it!

Yes, there is some Truth to what Steve says. Of course you should always strive to be a better writer, but sometimes you need to step back and decide if starting a blog is in your best interest.

There are things I just do not do on the Internet because Iam not a professional "Techie."

It's about what is the most efficient way to spend your time. For me, spending hundreds of hours to learn a lot of technical stuff is just not worth it. I would rather put my energy into my true strengths

Post videos. Either make your own or find others, for instance on YouTube, with content that would interest your target market.

While I love to write, I am overcoming the fear of camera's, video, and personally speaking to my audience.

Strangely enough, I've sold jobs and written hundreds of proposals offline, and yet; to complete my 'webmastering' journey - I feel, video, publicly speaking, reaching an audience through multiple marketing channels is going to force me to face those fears...

Perhaps, you can overcome your writing issues, as in my opinion, your ability to post clear questions is far better than others here, and with writing, you simply control the conversation or communications without the nuisances of rebuttal... at least not immediately, as is so with public speaking or engaging in live conversation.

Being fairly quick-witted, public speaking probably isn't as difficult as fear or discomfort often tends to imply... as could be so with you crafting your own writings for your blog.

  • Agree with Frank... But would recommend going one step further...

In addition to creating an audio/video, to also get it transcribed, and then getting a writer to polish it up so you can use the content you create as a blog post/article...

Where is the problem? If you would like to be a successful writer, you must have to know how to write an error free writing. In this case you have to learn the Language, which language you would like to write. beside the language, you need to have a clear idea about the Niche. If you have these two, you will be able to write. Best of luck. Thanks a lot.

There is soooooo much more to good writing than writing without errors. In fact, perfect grammar, syntax, etc. can make for incredibly dull content if you don't have a clue how to engage the reader.

        Hey Cali,
I will take it one step further. A number of highly successful Marketers mispell (lol) on purpose. Matt Furey does it and is known to invent his own wuurds ! Also, Ben Settle gets a kick out of the Grammar Nazis and will actually make grammar mistakes to bring them out. And then write a piece about them.

I agree with you Cali, perfect Grammar sometimes make your website content dull and boring. Read more and more and learn how you can engage your visitors with your site.
You can also hire a professional content writer who can write for your blogs. You can add videos to engage your audience.

    You start writing.

You're not aiming to become Shakespeare, you're aiming to connect with some people. Read Zinser's On Writing and Strunk and White's book on practice. Read Virginia Wolf and other great writers.

But, if you can write a coherent sentence, (like the ones in your post; you didn't hire a ghost writer for those, did you?) start writing.

There are people I follow who're bad at writing but they're passionate about what they write and have good info, so I read.

I am assuming you know the basics: sentences end with periods, names and the first word of a sentence are capitalized, etc.

I've seen quite a few posts like the one above recently...

Truth is - in the end it's not as much HOW you write as WHAT you have to say on your blog. It's best to have the spelling right and the sentence structure make sense, of course. However, you can have minor errors in style if there is SUBSTANCE behind your writing.

Next time you write a blog post, don't think about how to start a sentence or how many words you are adding to your blog.....talk out loud to yourself as if you were explaining what you want to say to someone standing next to you. While you are talking....write it down.

If the quote above is what you end up with....hire a writer

  • If that is the case I would hire a dedicated writer. However, don't just find any writer but find someone that has experience in your industry that can provide value to your readers. It's all about value at the end of the day. Another important issue are the personas. Who is your market and what are they looking for exactly. If you can write well hiring someone with engaging writing and also write to your market in an intriguing way, along with great outreach your blog can become very successful....

    Go read most blogs.

You'll soon see that most bloggers are not amazing writers. Even ones that make decent money. That's not to say the writing doesn't matter. It does. But you don't have to be the next big novelist. You just have to write in a way that resonates with your readers.

It's not as hard as it looks.

Write about what your audience wants to read about and in a way that's clear. If you do that, you'll make money. Without having to be the next Hemingway or Tolstoy.

For example, if I am writing to conservative folks in the finance market, I write about what's on their mind. And even if I don't have the prose of a poet like Robert Frost, it can still have impact. And it can still make a lot of money.

Because that market's not looking for poetry.

Not when they want to read about finance.

So while it's entirely possible to rely on video and audio or curation, I'd also invite you to challenge your notion about your writing.

Can you talk about the topic in person?

If you can ... turn that into writing.

And now you can write. Well enough to make money.

I assume you already know the answer(s).

    1. Learn to write.
    2. Pay someone else to write it for you (unique content).
    3. Use other's people content (PLR, doesn't work that well anymore).
    4. Do a video blog (works rather well if you are comfortable on camera, but it is not the best strategy for SEO).
    5. Find something else to do.

I have/had the same problem with speaking in front of a camera. I knew I need to have a certain level of confidence on screen to elicit an emotion in my viewers and to come over as genuine and for people to believe in what I was saying. Looking and sounding like I am reading of a script is viewer death.

I had no experience in this and after trying it realised how damn hard it was, so for an hour a day and every time I drive I practice speaking continuously and on various hypothetical blog topics to prepare, get into a flow and prepare for being on screen.

My advice, just practice and learn. Its not that hard to take baby steps and procure the necessary skills over time.

I would look for authority blogs covering the writing aspect of blogging (Copyblogger comes to mind). By embracing the knowledge offered there you'll get a good idea of what you need to do in order to start writing quality material. From there, I'd write posts and not hold back. After all, practice does make perfect.

I second Copyblogger's free membership, as the 20 or so free ebooks contain more value than most paid products on the subject of writing as a means of communication to your offerings (or your affiliate offerings) online.

Definitely, learn the craft... as writing itself is the most powerful tool for communicating your 'offerings' online and offline.

Yes, I do. The OP is writing a blog, generally blogs are a way of writing/sharing ideas on a topic the author loves.

You cannot cut and paste/outsource passion, as it defeats the primary purpose of blogging.

To the OP: here is what I suggest. Write your article. Do at least 2 revisions, then, send it to an editor. This way you will retain the original intellectual property and have polished work.

Good writing is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration (hard work and revisions, revisions, revisions).

I have a PhD, and my 300 page dissertation is not what developed my writing skills. I had classes, each one of which required a 3 page paper every week. Writing nearly 100 short papers is where I really honed my craft. I do technical writing today, and I always do at least 3 drafts.

Also, reading hundreds of papers from my students really honed my craft. The main reason I gave so many C's is that students think that a rough draft is a fine finished product.

The answer is simple. Put in an hour or so for every page you write.

Start with a brainstorm. Get all your ideas down on paper. Then, go back and number your ideas so that your ideas flow properly. Do 2 more revisions. I then go back and write my introductory paragraph, and then do one more draft.

You can outsource your writing to someone like me, however that works better for projects with a financial goal.

I would not hire out work for a blog.

Hey, listen......you can become a powerful writer. It takes reading and studying and practicing and learning from others (and following their examples), but you can do it.

Be encouraged......we all started out with 'baby talk' when we were born....it just takes practice and learning to turn it into excellence.

Work on it WHILE you get content elsewhere....it will really pay off in the end.

Hello. If you are not good at writing but still have the passion to keep writing, then you can find guides online so as to write quality articles. There are very many tips and ebooks online that will help you keep the tips and writing skills on a top notch. On the other hand, if you do not want to write, then you can employee an assistant who will be doing the writing and you will do a few editing and later publish the article. It is the best option since you will agree to own the copyrights of the article.

I know exactly how you feel shka2789.
I don't consider myself an amazing writer, but I think I know how to string a few sentences together that make passable sense.
Back in late 2010 and early 2011 is when I had my first websites.
They were like ghost towns cause I just couldn't figure out what the hell to write about.
    I pondered and I pondered.
And then I pondered even more.
    But nothing came to me.
I have been offline for the past two years and only recently got internet access again at home.
During the times I was offline, I thought about what kind of content could I come up with to interest people to read my blog.
I remember reading the posts of EelKat over at Kboards, and she talked about her life and all the things she has experienced throughout.
Then I thought to myself surely I could talk about things in my life, to some degree.
But after sitting and pondering on it, I said nah, I lived a real boring life.
No one is going to waste their precious time to read my blog posts.
Even though I told myself this, I still felt that itch to write about something.
I began telling myself I have to come up with something that will interest others.
The Law Of Attraction must have kicked in for me at some point, cause once I got the first idea, then I had another and then another.
I don't remember exactly when it happened, only that I need to scratch that itch.
It cannot be ignored any longer.
After seeing and realizing all the topics I could talk about, I was amazed that I was able to see various patterns on the topics I want to discuss, that were not visible to my eyes at first.
And now the floodgates are wide open.
I don't know how to turn it off.
Is like every time I look around, I get a bright idea.
By the end of the day, I have like 10 or more different blog posts I can write about.
    This is not joke people.
All I have to do now is pick out a title and get busy writing.
I would hire an assistant to help me if I could afford one.

I keep hearing fiction authors complain how the non-fiction authors got in good in terms of finding and creating content for their blogs/websites.
I have to admit I use to think this way as well.
    Not anymore.
I am thinking of creating an e-book to show fiction authors how they can come up with content to post on their blogs.
Starting from tomorrow is when I will be posting content on my blog, it is the first link in my signature.

    So shka2789 don't get discourage.
Take it from someone who is making the transition at this present time.
    You can do this.

    Best Regards,
    Shana Jahsinta Walters.

Who says you u need to be an amazing writer to write blogs?

Some popular blogs are never well written....instead, they are engaging, entertaining and errr...interesting.

As long as you are writing something that you are passionate about, and your communication is clear (not confusing), you should start a blog.

Don't let "I am NOT an amazing writer" scares you.

Just take action and tweak along the way.....

(This post is filled with errors...grammatically. But do you know what I wanna say? If so, that's all you need to get started)

I am too starting a blog for a specific niche. I'm not a great writer either, but I have connection to some really great writers. I pay pretty cheap for it too. They are good enough to use it for blogging. For blogging, the content writing doesn't have to be like a professional WSO sales page. A blog post can be fun, pretty much like a story telling. That's all you will need for a blog post.

    I would say, just learn!!

I also had a very hard time learning how to write when I first started. I moved to the US at age 15, and I did not even finish high school.

I was still learning English when I started with blogging - but I had a will power to learn and make it happen.

If I can do it, you can do it too man.

You don't have to be a great writer to become a good blogger. Just learn how to write simple content, and put your own character into it.

Practice, practice, practice. Write like a maniac, very consistently, and you will get better and better at it. I am telling you - you can do this!

When someone tells me they can't write, I often ask them....Can you talk?

Just write like you talk...Find your voice...Hit the emotional triggers that will keep your readers interested, be brief, deliver value, and colloquial phrasing won't matter.

Look how many rock singers make millions even though they can't sing! Why? Because people like the MESSAGE regardless.

Look at Sylvester Stallone's portrayal of Rocky Balboa...He was barely literate and yet communicated some extremely powerful messages within the movies.

I've created 3 WSOs and 2 of them made WSOTD even though the writing was NOT grammatically perfect...Not even close...It's the MESSAGE that's important. Ironically, my 1st WSO has sections on how to write effective product reviews AND how to create products even though my own grammar is less than perfect, and the reviews were terrific.

I tell you this only to illustrate what's possible.

    Hope this helps

      Bingo..Absolutely true.

I simply will sit in a room by myself with Laptop in hand. And talk out loud like I'm talking to a friend in the room. And he of course is not there.

But this can really go a long way in producing effective writing, and it's quite easy to do.

After reading all the previous replies to your post, i can see people suggesting you to learn writing or hire someone who can write for you. If i was given this option, learning a new skill takes effort and time and i would defnietly not go for the first unless i was passionate about it.

Hiring someone can be better, but i don't know how many have heard about hiring an article.

I'm a big fan of focusing on one's strengths. You feel that writing is not a strength of yours so I'd rather find out what your strength is. It will be easier, faster and bring in more money to focus on your strength. But it's just my approach. I know that many skills can be learned and if writing is your passion #1, then do it. You will get better along the way. Good luck!

Be original. There are millions of blogs that will produce a similar style of content to you, so it's important to make your blog different. Be original, try to steer away from doing what's already been done.

Do your research. Search your headline ideas to make sure they have not already been done. Research is important so that readers can't call you out on things that may be (slightly) incorrect.

\Be patient. No one receives a huge amount of feedback overnight. Audiences take time to grow and your blog will take time to succeed. You can't expect to post one piece of writing and receive thousands of hits. Sadly, it just doesn't work like that. Don't give up.

Promote yourself. If you are looking to receive a large amount of views, it's important that you post often on social media. Not so often that people will disregard you as spam, but often enough to make sure followers of your social media are aware a new post has been written.

Stay current. If you're writing about something that happened weeks ago, chances are you won't receive as many hits as you would do writing about something that happened today. Staying current is important to show other bloggers alongside your audience that you're on the ball and quick at creating content.

Post often. If you're leaving it a couple of weeks between blog posts, you'll never maintain a steady, regular audience. People won't wait around for your content, and bloggers are easily forgotten if they're not consistently on the radar.

Connect. Connecting with other bloggers will help you self-promote without actually promoting. Readers will follow bloggers' social media accounts. By connecting with other bloggers via social media, their audience will become aware of your blog.

They're also likely to click through to your posts just through the trust of the blogger they follow. If a fellow blogger likes your content, their audience may do too.

Be passionate. Enjoying what you're writing is incredibly important because your emotions are easily shown through the words you write.

A reader can instantly tell whether you're bored. Go into detail within your posts and represent your passion because it'll be a much more enjoyable experience for both you and the reader.

If you want to be a successful blogger, sorry to break the bad news, you have to learn how to write.

Sure, you can try hiring writers. You can get others to do guest posting at your site. But there are problems with those approaches. Hiring good quality writers is expensive. Unless you have a lot of cash to burn, that's not what I will recommend.

Fortunately, I believe that everyone has the potential to write well. Not superb. Just good enough to be a successful blogger.

Since young, I hate writing. I have a weak foundation in English Grammar. Till now, I am still struggling. But something interesting happen over the past 1 year - I started to write. Initially, my writing sucks. My wife often laugh at the mistakes I have made. She will then correct my sentences and usage of words to make my writing clearer.

Then, I read about one email from Brian Dean from Backlinko about writing. He said that for beginners writers, just follow 2 simple rules, and you can see your writing improve tremendously. The 2 rules are:

    1) Make your sentences short. Your readers can digest shorter sentences easier. You can make your sentences short by making each sentence communicate 1 idea only.

    2) Use active voice. Active voice follows the following format: [Subject] [verb] [object]. Try and make your sentences in active voice.

I followed these 2 rules whenever I write. I also make myself write 500 words every day in forums, reddit, or in my own blog posts. These 2 rules are great for you to get started. In fact, because of these 2 rules, I started to love writing.

But as I continue in my writing journey, I realise that there is something more. Most bloggers do not have the writing skills to produce high-quality work on the first try. Regardless of how great is the writing, usually their first draft sucks. This is known as the "ugly first draft" by Ann Handley, the author of Everybody WritesEverybody Writes (I strongly recommend you to read that book).

The key idea of the ugly first draft is just write. Ignore grammar. Ignore your sentence structure. Ignore your choices of words. After you are done with the ugly first draft, spend the time to edit it. Fix the grammar. Make your sentences shorter. Use stronger verbs.

Most writing went from poor to good in the editing process.

So I just want to share with you:

As long as you know English, you can write. To be a good writer, you need to read a lot. You also have to write a lot. Set yourself a goal to write everyday. You can start from 50 words, then slowly increase.

Fast forward till today, I am still a bad writer. But I learn how to edit so that my writing will be much better. I make use of tools like Hemmingway App and Grammarly to improve my writing after my first edit.

Few years back, I hate writing. But now I love it. I think most people will be able to love writing too.

Start writing about different kind of topics, at first you will not have a single idea to write about somwthing but after time ideas will be popping in your head and you will be writing and writing. In the early stages your grammar will suck like mines right now.But you will keep improving as you read and write. It will be helpful if someone proficient would tell your mistakes or guide you to right path.

I think that not all the people were born as the successful writers. In most cases, if you want to be a successful blogger, you should never stop off learning and developing your knowledge. I know that mostly bloggers used to share their experience, so I think it will be helpful for you to learn some new information and tips from them. If you have a goal to become a successful blogger and you follow up if, you will be the best blogger without fail.
