I am sure there are many good hosts and many many many bad hosts.

To name one that I am extremely happy with is 'vidahost' There support is outstanding and go above and beyond to help with anything they are asked of. I recently had a very complicated wordpress malfunction which would be outside the scope of normal hosting support. It took them hours to fix, but they did fix it at no extra cost.

In my experience, surrounding yourself with the very best reliable people and companies is paramount to keeping your time focused on your ideas and your business. Vida host is an example for me of such a company.

Always do your own research though.

I use Vidahost's cloud package for most of my sites.

A friend uses Tagadab's VPS for several of his larger sites where shared hosting isn't really an option.

It really depends on what your needs.

Speed, bandwith, cost, support, cpanel or no cpanel.

If you just strating and have little budget, hostgator or hawkhost is worth looking for.

Just remember to routinely back-up your site.

Any good host can host a Wordpress site. But when you start getting more traffic, you should consider a VPS or Dedicated server.

When hosting your wordpress site, look for a host that offers SSD as a bonus.

The baby plan at Hostgator which gives you unlimited domains is a good choice if your first starting out online, it allows you to install wordpress on your domains.

I currently host it on a Ramnode VPS. But shared hosting is the first stop for web hosting initially. But choose only reliable hosting. Because you might end up in the lurch if you save a few pennies and ruin your business.

I will recommend either Hostgator or GoDaddy. You can pick any one from these two.

At the moment, I use AIOP (all in one profits) ..aside from just hosting, you get a free autoresponder and a myriad of other marketing tools ..all for the princely sum of $10 + tax per month. not forgetting to mention, they have a good home business opportunity built in..

I want to second the comment about the host fitting your needs.

I use Flywheel, a specialist Wordpress host. I do so for a couple reasons:

      - my business is a large membership site, heavy on video use. I'm relaxed in the knowledge that the specialist team there will help out on any hosting issue; I have zero faith in my own ability at handling those problems. It allows me to focus on marketing.

      - I tried multiple hosts and kept coming up against quirky issues. Like, one host caused too many conflicts with my theme at the time. Another host, due to its security settings, had fundamental issues with my membership plugin. Ultimately I ended up with the host that was actually able to do what I needed of it.

But a place like Flywheel is quite pricey. If you have a simple website with only modest needs, then I'd highly recommend GoDaddy's Wordpress hosting. I know GD has had a dodgy reputation in the past, but their Wordpress hosting is really excellent value for money. They also have a clean and easy to use interface, and an excellent migration tool to port over an existing WP site.

avoid EIG hosts at all costs! They are slow, unreliable.
I host on Arvixe and have before and after they were acquired by EIG. I was fairly worried when the sale went down. I haven't noticed any difference in service and their CS is still the best I've ever dealt with, bar none!

I have been with Hostgator for 7 years now. I know peeps have been complaining about their dismal customer service since being taking over by EIG. But I have not experienced it.

      Keep my fingers crossed

Still keeping my options open, though. And looking for alternatives

I started with Namecheap. They were good but then i started to have more websites and more traffic. So i moved to vpswebserver.com. I now have around 50 sites in this company. Namecheap was good too.

    Pick any of these two.

I have been hosting my wordpress site on Ipage for two years now. I can frankly say that I never regret having seek their services. Every dollar that you pay for services at ipage is always taken into consideration and total accountability. The packages are always of limited bandwidth and unlimited storage, I deal you barely get from the top hosting companies. Ipage also comes with other added and discounted services such as google ads among others which when well utilized bore enough results.
