What is your most recent failure and what did you learn from it?

Heya Warriors...

What is your most recent failure and what did you learn from it?

Maybe failure is too harsh of a word...

When was the last time you tried something you were sure would work yet it didn't. This could be a product, project, idea, site - anything that just didn't work and you learned from it.

For me it was an adsense/amazon site in the fly fishing niche. It is made with 100% PLR content. You can see the site here.

I tried to flip the site on FLIPPA. Got a $150 bid for it, I accepted the bid and thought I had a sale. Next day (and before he paid) he wanted out because the site did not have original content. He accused me of copying other sites and left me negative feedback stating so.

The listing clearly stated it was 100% PLR content but he didn't know what PLR content was. The site was sold as far as FLIPPA was concerned so they ended the auction and want their success fee paid. If I want to relist it, it will be half the normal listing price but I shouldn't have to relist it since it didn't sell.

What I learned from this is never try to sell a 100% PLR site on FLIPPA and if there is even the smallest amount of non-original content to make it clear as day.

I also learned that dealing with ignorant site buyers can be a real pain in my booty.

The site still needs a new owner if anyone is interested.

Now its your turn - bring on those flops, failures and set backs people!

well for me was not to do everything on my own. i am a perfectionist and it is hard for me to try and outsource things. But once i got through this, a lot more work is done and i could focus more on expanding my business rather than the nitty gritty things.

I never fail. I only learn things the hard way.

You'd think after years that would lessen a wee bit, eh?

Nowadays, I try to research until I'm satisfied I know THE answer before implementing things - that slants success in my general direction. It's amazing how many opportunities for extreme frustration pounced on me when I didn't take the time to do that...

        Hmmm....

Not many replies. Looks like some people are afraid to talk about their failures - or even things that just didn't go as planned.

I'm ashamed to admit I wasted $9,000 on call and email blasts for a credit card merchant company. It's been 3 months, and no sales.

Now I'm way poorer, but much wiser if that counts for anything...

The only thing one can do in this situation is to admit a loss, and try harder with more reliable methods.

My mom would say, that's a very cheap price for such an important lesson. There are folks who NEVER learn and ALWAYS buy the dream and end up losing everything.

      I've never forgotten that lesson....

Isn't that nice to get off your chest!?

That is the type of feedback I am looking for! This thread will hopefully show others that we too have fears and failures of all sizes and results.
