A picture REALLY is worth a thousand words. A revelation that increased my writing output & quality

Hi Warriors,

How many times have we heard the old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

I've always believed this and yet the impact of what hit me at 1AM this morning sent my head spinning.

You see, I've always interpreted this to mean that you can replace 1,000 words with one picture.

I was putting the finishing touches on my current project. I wrote a few words about a certain point I was making and inserted a picture to make the point clear.

Well, after inserting the picture I started writing again to give a little more details on the picture. At first it was just a caption for the picture then one thought inspired by the picture led to another thought and more words.

By the time I wrote more and more about the picture I got a little frustrated with my self because I thought, "I've described this so much now I really don't need that picture after all."

Instead of replacing 1,000 words with one picture, I replaced one picture with 1,000 words.

Then it hit me like a bolt of lightening. A picture really is worth a thousand words, and after all as article writers we don't use pictures at all, Words are the content that is king!

Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke I went to another picture and started to describe it. My goal this time was to purposely write such a vivid description that I could leave the picture out without detracting from my eBook.

IT WORKED.

Of course, I'll leave pictures in my eBooks to break the monotony of words only, however, I've just found another use for pictures. Inspiration for more words.

"A picture is worth a thousand words" has just taken on a completely new meaning for me.

"Good post George". I use a lot of photos on my blog that help to explain what I'm talking about and I think it has helped get my posts indexed quickly.

I think this works well with authority sites. I know I did one a while back and it showed up within a single day.

  • Wow. Great way to use a picture. Never thought of it that way, and probably never would have .... Nice find.

I blog about chocolate and I've found that going to fotolia.com and putting in "chocolate" returns a LOT of ideas.

this is a good tip. If this thing works for everybody all we have to do to find inspiration is to look for pictures available for the niche we're writing.

I'll have to test this myself..

Thanks George, You'll always be Wright! :-)

Actually George, due to the economic downturn, I'm sorry to report that a picture is now only worth 874 words.
