Features vs Performance

So I am building a site where the user's profile is the main feature. (Think a dating site where profile and the profile fields are the most important)
I have narrowed it down to 2 plugins for this.

#1 - The first plugin offers great features such as a cool looking profile, ability to feature members, but lacks the privacy functions, such as followers, chat, messaging. I have to utilize separate plugins for events, directory, groups, etc.
#2 - The second plugin is more of a social networking plugin and while it does not look "as cool", it offers all the other features - privacy, followers, chat, messaging, events, groups, etc., however, it is a heavy load and my concern of performance is the main issue.

So my obvious question is...which option should I go with?
Thanks so much for any input. I am extremely torn and can't decide.

I would recommend going with the 2 option as it is
providing more of a social networking environment and
yes performance would be an area of concern.
But at least you'll get all those features..

Take out a piece of paper and jot down all the features you want to have on your web site. Next, prioritize this list from the most important to the least.

Take out a 2nd piece of paper and jot down all the benefits to the customer that you want to provide via your web site. Next, prioritize this list from the most important to the least.

Study the first list . . . then throw it away. It is not important.

Study your 2nd list. This is what you're going to do for your customers. Note the very first item, your most important priority.

Whichever plug-in will give you this priority #1 is what you should choose. If you can't provide the customer's top priority, get out of this niche.

I recommend #2 and have a coder customize your plugin.

Depending on the parameters that need to be changed, this might actually be a low-cost project.

In many cases, plugins already have parameters set in their code and your coder only need to play around with these and customize the output so it looks better with your layout.
