SEO vs Social Bookmarks and Youtube links

Here is couple of points I wanted to make and get your views on...

I have been doing SEO on a niche site created back in 2008. Doing well with it. Lot of work that went into it and used some free and paid SEO services for it.

Some keywords rank on first pages on and off at Search Engines.

Now, recently I been working on a new niche and new site. I do not have much time these days so I only went ahead and made some youtube videos with good content and used social media links. This site is actually on a more competitive niche.

To my surprise, it started ranking really well and fast with almost no SEO. You might say that this is due to keyword etc. May be..but I am starting to think that Google is doing something that we are missing. May be on page SEO is less relevant now?

Anyway, that is my thoughts...

    about FB likes .

    Let's say one of your contents got lots of FB likes does it aid your site?

    Some claim nope.

    on the other hand some claim if you content got lots of google plus +1

    it does aid your site ranking?

      I think they do help...probably a mixture of all the efforts plus more positivity on the social links.

        hmmm this is what puzzle me...

        perhaps they mean FB is like " enemy of google plus " so is negative ?

        whereas if you got lots of google +1 on the other hand does help ?? since google plus is under google itself?

        Irony in fact FB is the most popular Social Media globally.

    It depends on many factors. I mean how well your website is coded, is it mobile friendly, how many quality backlinks it gets, the weight of written content etc.

    Try to compare these two websites with tools such as MOZ, SpyFu, SimilarWeb etc.

    Moreover, use google test tools just to check how different these websites are regarding technical things. https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ After all you will find the differences and then you could improve your first website

    Social bookmarking links = no effect on your rankings on the search engines.
    YouTube links = nofollow so the same applies.

    dofollow links is what you need!

    Do you mean you made videos and they are ranking in Google/Youtube and are on Youtube? Or you embedded the YT videos on your own pages and your own pages are ranking?
