Is Investing in Short Domains any Good?

Hi Warriors:

Wishing you all the prosperous happy-new-year 2016.

As it looks like everybody is after domain business, I wanted to invest some money in domains as well, so I bought some short domains mostly the dotcome ones.

I bought some LLNN, NNLL, LLLN, NNNL, LNNN, NLLL domains hoping that in a year or two it will pay the dividends.

I wanted to know your opinion on this if you are also into the domain market.

Thanks

    That's very specualtive

You're better off with NNNN or NNN or LLL or LLLL

Anything having to do with random numbers and letters is speculative but your approach is WAY MORE speculative than normal

Expect to wait a long time to sell UNLESS you market your stuff aggressively

I'm inclined to think that entire numbers and letters domain market is highly speculative at this point. Not because there's anything inherently wrong with these domains. It's just because there has been a lengthy bull market in these and, to quote the proverbial doomsday preacher, I believe the end is near.

When you consider that 50% of stock market gurus and 99% of economists are usually wrong about market trends, I beg your forgiveness with this prediction. Keep in mind, though, that the entire domain market is speculative. Even aggressive telemarketing can lead nowhere at the end of the day.

I guess you can tell I'm a buy and hold kind of guy. A long-term investor. So this domain flipping strategy is not my kind of game. Some folks will say you missed the boom, but that's fine with me. I'm just more comforatble with useful, generic keyword domain names that will always have some interest even as the internet matures.

This is a roundabout way of saying: Proceed with caution. You may be buying at the top. And that could put you off domain investing for good.

        Hello SiteNameSales and WriteAway,

I would like to thank you for your opinions.

I've been keeping my eyes on the latest sales in the domain market place and searching for those llnn, nnll, llln, nnnl, lnnn, nlll domains and I see some of the domains have had some bids.

I recently bought one of the expired domains with NLLL with 2 ll being repeated. I'm checking the stats through my parked page and I see that there are 60 visits a day all from China.

Although, it's hard to tell that visitors are interested in the domain or they are being directed to the domain through some links.

Nevertheless, I'm hoping for the best.

If I were doing this, I would stick with LLLL.com only. I have seen some scarcity building, but only in this sector. Random combinations of letters and numbers aren't increasing in price IMO. Make sure you only get dot coms - they are the preferred and most valuable extensions.

Those 4 letters domain names worth a lot!! Nowadays I can't even find a 4 letter domain name free to register. Just keep them, wait for years, they will worth a lot. Even 10 years or 20 years later! The Internet is getting BIGGER and BIGGER everyday with businesses and people who want to get domain names. Keep and slowly find buyers.
