Any webdesign agency making the blog work?

Hey everybody,

I own a webdesign agency, and have been thinking about blogging to build a thought leadership and attract more clients.

A simple google search revealed most webdesign agencies blog for the sake of blogging, what I mean here is, it looks like nobody reads their blog.

Almost all webdesign agencies don't even have a single comment on their blog posts.

I think it is easy to judge that if a blog has 0 engagement it's not doing the job.

Now coming back to the topic, I wish to model a webdesign agency who has managed to make blogging work for them, so I can model those guys.

Any suggestions warriors?

  • Some random thoughts from somone who is not a web design agency...............

Just because there are no comments does not mean they are not seeing the content.

I doubt web design agencies are doing anything special/different/unusual to promote themselves.

If I were you I would build your own personal brand. You are that ageny's Unique Selling Proposition! Then instead of 'selling' the web design agency, you a) show that you are a thought leader and b) you own this 'red-hot' web design agency. Neil Patel does this well.

    • Yup Neil patel is awesome.

So you think I should blog using my own name domain at Anoopchawla.com or mycompany.com/blog?

Using my company domain will get extra traffic to my company website though.

  • Sometimes people with a business have a blog just because they think they "should", without really thinking out why it's needed and how to use it.

There are many ways to use a blog. For a web design agency, here is one way to do it:

    1. Come up a list of problems that your ideal customer has, ideally in 4-5 different topics.
    2. Create a well-researched, high-value blog post for each of them, helping them (at least partially) solve a specific problem.
    3. Create a call to action at the bottom, middle, and sidebar of your post. The CTA should allow them to opt in for something free (a "lead magnet")...a free download, ebook, consultation, etc.
    4. Now they're a lead. You can funnel them into your email series, building your authority with other blog posts and high-value content, ultimately hopefully resulting in them trusting you enough to hire you for your services.

    That's the basic idea anyway...
