Is it harder than ever now to succeed online?

I know newbies flood this place every day, probably even more than the "gurus" ever will because of the fact that they are busy with their lives. But for those who are knowledgeable, more established and have the time to give a piece of their mind, do you think it's harder than ever to succeed online? I know that more consumers turn to the internet, there are more market opportunities, but given the fact that having an online business is just like marketing to people (the difference is we do it online instead of face to face), however the ladnscape has changed over the years. Google has been more strict with their penalties, there are now more established brands, entities and companies that have their loyal fanbase, and people with more money. Of course there are niches to be used, but the good ones have their players in them, too.

What does that leave the average Joe with meager to no budget? What does that leave the average newbie who's about to start now or maybe in 2 years' time?

I know that most people fail online because not everyone is meant for this type of field, and worse we've been lied to, fed to and manipulated with all those shady business practices.

So for the average newbie, would it be hard for them to succeed more than ever?

I want a good discussion because that's what I observed from "desperate" people who come here and ask the same ol' question: How do I make money online?

Not everyone uses Google as their search engine.

There are way too many ways to make money online to even think one has really tried them all.

Yeah, that Amazon, Ebay, and those other big companies are all really shady.

You mention "big players" in all of the good niches.

If you imagine those big players as trees, then you can relate it to this saying.

"The best time to plant a tree was 50 years ago.
The second best time is now."

Those big players started out with a website with no traffic, no blog posts and making no money.

Over time, they have built a brand and become succesful.

If you start a website in a niche today, and work at it as hard as they did there is no reason you can't be as successful as they are!

Take action and don't let the competition put you off!

Personally I think so much comes down to the persons budget. For the most part it takes money to make money and sure there always going to be exceptions. However, those that have little to no money are probably trying strategies and methods that don't work very well and would make more money having a minimum wage job.

The only decent way to make money with "no money" is using viral traffic. Or maybe selling some kind of service or software. It's a workable strategy but you have to know what you're doing. (I posted basically this exact thread 2 years ago and ALOT has changed since then).

If you have no money, how are you going to develop the service or software?

I have a friend that has an electronic cigarette liquid company and when he started it, his sole means of marketing was through facebook groups. That was 18 months ago and he is now doing $200K per month in sales. However, he spent over $15K setting it up. If he had no budget, it would of never happened.

But what you are saying is true. I have software that I've spent $150K+ over the years developing (not that it's worth that, just what I spent adding / removing functions as needed) and I currently sell it and do it with a zero marketing budget. As like my friend did, by going where potential users existed and eventually the word spreads. But had I not already had the software, never would of happened.

I wouldn't say it is getting easier or even harder. I dont think this is the right way to look at this topic.

It is not whether is easier or not.

It is weather being Possible to accomplish or Not.

    And obviously, IT IS POSSIBLE.

Making Money Online CAN BE DONE.

    By Anyone, and Everyone.

Just take a look at the statistics!!

The number of people who are building a nice income stream online is only going up!!

Now what does this tell you? ...

All you need to know is that it can be done. And do not ask yourself this question of; "is it easier or harder now???"

Realize, that the main reason why you ask yourself this question, is because you are really looking for an "Easy Way to Succeed".

That is what you are looking for, in the back of your mind. And this mindset will never help you succeed. It will actually sabotage your success!!

So be careful with your definitions, approach, and mindset.

It is getting easier for the average Joe to make money online. And the Evolution of Technology has a lot to do with this as well!

I mean, I personally know a lot of people who are building residual income online mainly through their Smart Phone and Tablets!! ... not even using a computer!! hahaha

It all comes down to HOW BAD you want to succeed.

The knowledge to build an income online - is EVERYWHERE.

    The support is EVERYWHERE.

    The guidance is EVERYWHERE.

The resources and tutorials ..... is EVERYWHERE.

I mean, just do your research - learn how to be RESOURCEFUL!!

When I first got started online, I had no clue about a single thing! .. I did not even know what blogging was or even what a domain name was!!

But, I used the power of the search engines to find information for free and learn every single day.

Google and Youtube became my teachers for years.

There are no excuses to why you would not be able to make something happen online.

I'll be really really honest with you, most people lazy and want things to happen on demand and be served the knowledge on a silver platter.

You have to take the time to find the right resources and knowledge to help you succeed and get results.

There is TONS of powerful knowledge online. It is really EVERYWHERE!

Only those who want to succeed as bad as they want to breath, will be successful. PERIOD.

If you do not succeed, it is because you have a mindset that is making you look for an "Easy Way" to success. And everyone knows there is not such thing!!

When it comes to success - the same concepts apply in every arena.

You have to fail your way to success.

    No pain, no gain!

For example, how do you gain more muscles? .. how do you build and sculpture the body you want?

You lift weights, and you challenge your body.

It is the exact same thing with success online - and in anything in life in general.

The challenges you have online - are like the WEIGHTS you lift when trying to build up muscle. You need the pain, you need the failure, you need the mistakes - in order to grow stronger and better.

If you want an easy way to make money - then go and trade your time for money - because you will not find an easy way online.

Now, I am not saying that it is going to be hard to make money online - all the time and always.

It is only at the BEGINNING that it is really hard to build an income online.

Once you are making some good money, you can expand, and invest, and use tools, and hire people. You can outsource a lot of work, and then you can relax a lot more.

But at the beginning, you have to grind baby!

Again, think about the approach when you want to build muscle and sculpture a very fit body - at the beginning you will have to go through a lot of pain and a lot of hard work - but once you have the body and the muscles you want, you would not have to go through the same to maintain it (unless you are bodybuilding haha).

    You get what I mean?

As technology evolves, it is really getting easier to make money online.

And well, this is also a BELIEF situation. Whatever you believe, will become true in your life.

If you believe that is really really hard to make money online - then guess what, what you believe, will become true!!

ALL you need to know, is IF it is possible or not.

You see a lot of people succeeding online, but you pay more attention to the people who are not succeeding. Can you relate?

I think this is a very common problem amongst newbies - they pay more attention to the ones failing, than the ones succeeding.

Because they want to find an easy way to success, so they turn to the newbies to see what new shiny program or company they are working with, that is promising an easy way - as if by only getting a gym membership will automatically get you the body and the muscles you wanted, in a few month, without actually putting in the hard work!!

    Come on now!!!

    Be honest with yourself!

    Keep it real!

You know it can be done!

So do not ask if it is getting easier, or harder!

Ask, instead, HOW BAD YOU WANT THIS!!!

    I'm dropping the mic now!

Unless you have studied online witchcraft, and know how to create complicated sales funnels, and do deep, sometimes weird and obsessive marketing stuff - and you are persistent as hell to create a massive list of subscribers, yes it is.

But the good news is, you can happily build your own online presence, and market what you do offline, and then your success wont be subject to Google's, or any other search engines moods..

I think one thing that may be missing from the debate is Mindset! If you have the mindset to make money online you will and that Is because you have the right balance to make things work.

Mind you there are to very different ways to make money online , MMO &IM

IM is easier because you will be able to find a niche but the MMO not so easy as it has been gamed to death, I mean look at the WSO forum prime example and the rehashed crap that gets sold to newbies and they come on here wanting answers.

And that's what most people should do - get a job.

Not a lot of people who start a business offline or online succeed.

I believe a lot of people can make extra money online, however. But a sustainable income, no. and certainly not a travel-the-world income, lay-around-doing-nothing income. For most, that's not possible. It's a dream, and it will remain a dream.

Is it harder now for newbies coming in? No, but it's still hard, because of overwhelm, lack of funds, lack of comprehension, lack of drive, among many other things.

This also takes some personal fine-tuning in a lot of areas, and I just don't see many newbies that are capable of doing it, or that follow through with a personal-growth mindset that keeps them focused with enough perseverance to succeed.

I think even a sustainable income is very much possible. The problem, like you said, is that a lot of people give up when they don't see immediate results.

I've been at it for almost 7-8 months now, and I feel like 2016 will be my break out year. It hasn't been easy, and I've needed a lot of mindset changes coupled with lots of self-discipline along way, but I feel like I'm almost there in terms of reaching my goals. Been going hard this month.

I always laugh when I see people post that a lot of money is needed to start out online, complete nonsense. If you can't start out online with the money in your pocket you've already failed.

It's also amusing when folks claim a niche is saturated (common sense fail). There's so many traffic sources on the web it's impossible to saturate a niche. Look at Warrior Forum, most folks probably buy at least a dozen WSOs over their lifetime (single traffic source).

The same is true in niches outside of IM. Have you ever met a person that bought a single cell phone case & never bought a 2nd case? The answer is NO, nobody buys just one cell phone case in their entire lifetime.

Have you ever met a person that buys all their shoes from a single store, NO, nobody buys shoes from a single store over their entire lifetime.

Have you ever met anyone that bought auto insurance from a single insurance company over their entire lifetime? The answer is NO, just like any other niche, people buy the same products over & over... from multiple suppliers/sources.

    My advice for OP...

You can research products that sell and locate yourself a drop shipper for those products.

Set up a website and market around forums, whilst attracting organic search engine traffic.

One of my best businesses was done on this basis with no money in the sports niche.

I don't sell products without seeing them first, so I've had huge Dumbbells and other gear sent to me from all four corners of the globe, It's all in the garden.

Nowt from nowt is entirely possible for everyone, not just guru legends.

It's not hard. If you think hard then it will be hard because your overthinking it. First thing you want is to learn all the free traffic methods and see how that goes for you. If that still doesn't work, recheck all your ad copy, email swipes, fix and edit them as you go along. If you did all that and nothing works, you may need to find new friends. There are too many people in this world. If this still doesn't work, go find yourself a job so you can have some money to spend on paid ads. Really though, if you do all this and you've taken enough action, I don't see how you can fail. There will always be an audience for you in your niche. You just have to make it work. In the end, I think it mostly come down to you. If people like you and trust you, they will buy from you. Focus on relationship building.

Nope. It's a mindset that's making you believe that, and i hope no one here will try to feed into it. Succeeding online is easy. Have patience. If you have 10,000 email subscribers and are only making $400/month.... be glad. It's actually much easier to succeed on line then eight years ago when I started. Now there are so many "plug and play" systems. If you are smart enough to use them.

The reasons people don't succeed haven't changed though. Some people, when presented with a clear, proven path to success, will still fail to take action. That's a characteristic of the individual, not the times or resources available.

I wouldn't say harder. Back when I first started Internet marketing back around 2012 and now in 2015...not many things have changed. Marketing at its core will forever stay the same. Yes some of the methods have changed, but you have to learn and adapt.

I wouldn't say harder, but I will say that nowadays you can't be releasing crappy products or making subpar content and expecting it to make money.

I have been making money online for like 10 years or so. I have tried many different things, perfected a few, and still continue to make money online. I wouldn't say that is easier or harder to make money online. It really all depends on the person, their resources, and which method they are using. Some methods work for some people whereas it fails for another. You just need to find what works best for you and to research and learn more about your chosen field. No matter what everything takes time, effort, and work.

The average Joe has an average life. Can the average Joe be successful online? yes as successful as he would be offline, so in other words he might get average results, maybe replace his burger flipping income with effort. More often though that does not even happen because "average" people can show up for work when they are told to. They do NOT generally start businesses, invest money, track/test/improve and stick with it while not making a nickel.

In general is it easier online? Oh my god yes. With no budget? Never has been and never will be. But if you would be capable of building a successful offline business and have funds you can do it faster and easier online now than ever because you do not need to re-invent the wheel and the tools and training available or far ahead of where they used to be not to mention targeted traffic opportunities the likes of which we have never seen before.

Personally, if newbies want to make money online, they should stay away from Google. In other words, online business which depend on SEO and such. Newbies should concentrate to learn more about Email Marketing whenever they want to start to venture in this business. It is very sustainable since we are not relying on Google to earn a living. For me, the big G is pretty much --- evil. LOL.

Hard work: You can’t do anything online, if you’re not a hard worker, with passions to succeed in the business that you love. The hard work is your treasure and you can really make money with it, if you’re honest and works to help people, and not selling them useless e-books, like many people do actually. The second one is money or financial investments, this one can replace that hard work, but you still need to work to make things works for you.

There are so many variables that it's impossible to say. It's like saying 'is it possible to succeed in business?' Many people do but many people fail, too. Many succeed after a series of failures. It's all about what you do, for how long and how consistently you do it.

Wow, din`t expect to find so many good tips on a thread like this.

The question was: Is it harder now to make money online?

The answer is yes and no. Let me explain:

Yes, because as you said, the market is getting saturated and it`s harder to attract new customers.

No, in fact it can be easier sometimes, because you now have access to a lot of new information. You can learn using youtube, google or forums like this one. (if you use the search bar here you can find lots of useful threads).

Also, because the quantity of the sellers online is growing, now more than ever we should try to focus our attention towards the quality of the content we are creating

  • No. Its no harder or easier. It is what it is. There are methods which used to generate thousands of dollars which do not anymore. But there are new ways of making money. But if you are a newbie and have nothing to compare to, then you wouldn't have known about those old methods anyway. So its all about where you are now and there are no shortage of opportunities online.

Is it harder than ever now to succeed online?

I would say yes it is more difficult to succeed now going into 2016 then it was, say in 2008.

True, there are many more people on the Internet these days than 10 years ago, but what I am observing is that a lot of people, in terms of Internet Marketing, are keeping a much tighter grasp onto their hard earned dollars simply from being scammed so many times in the past.

It is true you can succeed these days and make some money, but to do that you're going to really have to rise above and beyond everyone else trying to eke out a living online.

To be successful online you need to change your mindset first.

Then you need to take action on whatever you doing to make money online. (if you have a plan)

You then need to stay FOCUSED and not jump from 1 thing to another...that kills most people fast from seeing ANY results fast.

Make money online is not easy...but you have to stay focus and build.

Do 1 thing at a time until you get really good at it.

    Hope it helps you

Its easy now, more than ever to succeed online. I dont know what happened or how it was 5 or 10 yrs back but now the opportunities are multifold

Internet is expanding in countries...means more customers than before. Countries are working on improving their infrastructure. Tonnes of new products launchin every now and then means more options for affiliate sales. Various bloggers writing guides on their blogs means more free quality information. Various revenue sharing websites launching meaning all the more earning opportunities for everyone.

So it can easily be concluded that getting success online has become easy now. All we need is an open mind to accept things can happen other and innovative ways too rather than ways we have lived already.

Yes, it is harder. Because most internet marketers are lazy and just want shortcuts as evidenced by all these noob warrior posts and even more noob warriors trying to chime in when they haven't made a dime (not everyone, but some very obvious ones who answer this question then have other questions asking basic ass questions)... anyway, what I am saying is that the bar has been raised higher. You need high quality content, high quality links, innovative new SEO methods. It's constantly changing, and most people still haven't realized that they actually need to develop long term skills in order to succeed. And if you can't be bothered learning those skills, paying for outsourcing will be very, very expensive overall.

I can effectively do web design, content writing, sales copy, niche research, SEO all by myself. If I paid to outsource all that, it would cost upwards of thousands of dollars. Writing quality 3000+ word articles that get shared and linked to is not an easy task. Setting up wordpress properly and spending hours looking for themes and modifying them isn't either. Learning SEO is an uphill battle for months on end. Maybe about a year to get good at it.

But I did it, even though it took about 2-3 years to get those skills to a good level where I can launch an entire business from scratch. I don't have thousands of posts here because I have more important things to do, but that doesn't make me less of an "expert". Asking if its harder than ever now is only going to make you paranoid and unable to start, and continue looking for easy riches when it doesn't really exist. Harsh, but that's reality, and this forum needs a very generous dose of it.

As one who has been involved in sales and marketing online and off for most of the last quarter century, I have heard this question posed online and off.

From 1995 - 2005, what made internet marketing so difficult was that there was no tools, no training, you were like the pioneers coming to a new land. The landscape was harsh and unwelcoming.

Now there are tools that make things so much easier and training's out the ying yang. But competition is stiffer.

There will always be competition and circumstances that make succeeding at anything difficult.

What is important to remember is that it is the difficulties that make it an opportunity. Almost anyone can go to McDonalds on any given day and get a job. The reason is that the job is easy to learn and perform. So the qualifications are minimal, as are the expectations of performance.

But of course the problem is that the pay is minimum wage.

Starting a business online or off is challenging. For this reason, most will not have the courage or fortitude to do what is necessary to succeed. For those that do... they are the champions the rest only dream of being.

      Happy Holidays.

        Great questions, Perfectly stated.

I believe the answer to that questions is Yes and No...

The internet has more than 3 BILLION people on it, all the time.

So the problem is not demand, or competition. there are enough people looking for stuff to buy on the internet for every one.

There are Millions upon Millions of people on the internet every second looking for solutions to their problems. The Job of the Internet Marketer is to put his Solution in fount of the people with the problem, and get paid for doing it.

That being said, it is relatively easy to identify a problem within a "Niche", and with enough interest in it, research, and careful planing you can provide your "solution" to the people who have that particular problem in an endless amount of ways.

Yet learning how to do this properly is where people get lost and frustrated most of the time.

So If you want to make real money online, you will have to become an Internet Marketer to do it.

that is like wanting to play in the NBA, without having to become a basketball player.

You need to harness you marketing skills before you can make good money online, but doing this takes access to the right information. Just like anything in life there are good things and bad things. It is up to you to find the ones that are good by understand what the bad ones look like.

Yes, it is hard to make an online business form starch with no knowledge, no help and with no money. That is like trying to build your own house by your self with no help.

Yea, if you want that house badly enough, you will get it done.

It would just take you a really long time, lots of blood, sweat and tears and you would probably start over again and again.(Because you do not know how to build the house, so you are bond to mess it up, more than once.)

So when viewed form that perspective, it is harder to start a stable business in the most rapidly evolving industry in the history of man kind, today then it was before, when you could just span people and get money.

But at the same time, with evolution comes progress

So today, that are amazing online communities, programs, opportunities, and products that total newbies can dive into to learn how to become real internet marketers. There really are amazing people in this industry, and the ones that are the most successful are the ones that are the most helpful.

So I believe the job of the newbie marketer should be to find other marketers that they admire, let alone trust.

If you can find the most legit of the legit marketers online then they will lead you to the right information, opportunity, or product that will set you not only rolling but navigating your way to your goals. this is because the real marketers understand that if they help people out, then those people are going to love them for it and buy again form them, not only that they also sleep like babies at night. Knowing that theirs life's work is at actually making a difference in peoples life.

So No, it is not harder today to make money online. If you know the right things, and have access to constant support and guidance. It is actually easier now more than ever to build a real business online. But you can not go at it alone. You need to find the right help, the right product, the right program, or opportunity for you, and you need to stick with it.

If I could recommend two of the best programs online to anyone reading this it would be: "Wealthy Affiliate" and the "iPro Patterns program". Type those up in YouTube or in Google

        King Regards

I would say no and I agree with some of the previous comments, there's so many tools available now (a lot of them for free or low cost) that surely its easier to succeed online?

And if you don't know something, find it out, stick links to this forum (and others), YouTube, FB Groups etc. on your desktop and use them when you're stuck.

I still think the best way for someone to start off, when they're knowledge or cash 'poor' is to build themselves an online identity first, start a blog, get used to writing good quality (and regular) content, learn a bit about SEO (text and images!) and use that on their blog content.

At the same time, get some social media started. FB, G+, whatever, just do it!

Load up the social media using something Hootsuite (again there is a free option for this) and then get back to the blog....

Head over to youtube again and learn about lead magnets, email marketing and the likes and setup a autoresponder (Aweber $1 trial for a month, thats fairly low cost!), create an email sequence that gives your subscribers value and warm them up slowly in preperation for some 'non-pushy' offers.

It's not harder, it just takes a bit of time but once you've done these basics, and learn't a ton of stuff in the meanwhile, then you can start to think about creating your own products (if that's what you want to do?).

        Cheers

To me ,It was never easy to succeed online ,Only those people succeeded who took massive action and had a bit of risk taking abilities ,Even today the scenario has not changed and it is more of the same ...

You need to take action every single day and do not wait for any perfect time as there is none ...

I do not think so it is difficult to succeed now ,Competition has increased so as the knowledge of the people with all the tools and courses ,Few years ago no one had the luxury of these things but there was less competition ,In short we are more or less at the same place as before ..

Only action taker wins and rest become dreamers

The bottom line is everyone expects to buy the magical turn key business. The truth is you have to build it from the ground up. There are no easy rides. You have to be willing to put in your blood, sweat, tears and unwavering determination to succeed. You keep trying till you achieve success just like anything else in life. Everyone just quits because they lack the will to fight on. Will you fail? Yes but take every failure as a lesson learned and eventually you will succeed.

It's actually as easy to make money online as it has ever been. It just involves findings a niche, or subniche and then focusing on serving the people in that niche.

I believe that you are better off focusing on a tiny piece of a very large but profitable niche... focusing on some area that the big brands largely ignore.

There will always be competition but that also indicates that a niche is profitable... so don't worry about the competition. Instead focus on doing something a little better than they do, and customer who care about that thing will flock to you.

This question has popped up a couple times on the forum, her is one:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...years-ago.html

I would say it all depends on what niche you are in. There are some niches
that sold information 10 years ago that would now be given away free. In other
words the free line has moved dramatically.

You have more competition today but also a wider market because more
people are online than 10 years ago. More tools are also available, so
    automation has become a breeze.

A big challenge though has become getting ATTENTION. There are so many
elements calling for your prospects attention that it seems you have to shout
    today to break through.

But whether it is harder or easier, the money will still end up in the hands
of those who work harder and persist longer. That hasn't changed.

You have to have laser like focus and work smart, work hard and work long hours - especially in the beginning, like any bricks and mortar business. I have lost count the number of very late nights in the early days where I was only making a few dollars a day, and I had amazing support from my girlfriend and maxed out a few credit cards on advertising early on. Now it's giving me a comfortable living but it took confidence that this internet thing would work no matter what.

I would never consider getting a "real job" again - it's just way to easy to make a living online once you know how, and have the correct mindset. Believing in what you are doing and that it will one day pay off big time might just be the hardest bit...

So far for me joining a revshare program was the most profitable as I am making about $47 daily after just 2 months. It took me sometime to join though as I hated revshare progams in the past. I believe revshare programs have gotten a bad name and many of them were not honest and were out to make some quick money and closed or should I say forced to close in their infancy stage. So I had to do an extensive research on the company before I did join. So what I can now say is that not all revshare programs are bad and you just need to do your research to find the right one to join to make serious money.

Reasons are many to be failed in online business.
"Survival of the Fittest" by "Herbert Spencer" from the Evolutionary theory is applies everywhere in business. Few reasons below for the failure

    1. Expecting too Early
    2. Poor Planning
    3. Lack Of Smart People
    4. Problem Solving Skills
    5. Unethical Practices
    6. Negative Feedback
