I am still not super clear on pinging. But I understand it is a good idea to ping engines so should I use the longest ping list I can find or should I selectively ping?

There are some major issues with the default WordPress ping system which can get your blog banned on different ping services

But now there is the Ultimate Plugins Smart Update Pinger - a new & upgraded version of the Smart Update Pinger by Christian Davén that fixes all the problems above, and works even with the latest WordPress releases!

Ultimate Plugins Smart Update Pinger [Ultimate Plugins]
This plugin will:

1. Ping services only when a new post is created, not when a post is updated
2. Ping services for future posts only when the post appears on your blog
3. Provide you with a detailed overview of each ping operation the plugin makes
4. Provide you with a "ping now" functionality
5. Check if a service supports extended or normal pings and ping accordingly
6. Use the new URL instead of just the homepage URL to ping, resulting in a much higher quality ping (extended pings)

get it and activate it now

Highly unlikely with modern ping scripts unless you're truly spamming them with a large number of automated requests. The plugin has some nice features but using scare tactics to push it doesn't sit well with me.

You can ping the rss directories using pingler.com it has over 90 directories.

You can even include the ping list in this thread for a even bigger list if the directories are different from the list at pingler.com

Or...

You can take the combined lists from this thread and pingler.com and input it into your update services at your WP blog.

Hope This Helps!!

Just to be clear are you saying to take the list here and ADD pingler.com to it and put it the section of my WP blog for auto pinging?

Plus add the WP plug in to make sure it pings correctly?

Thanks!

A lot of the names on the list above seem to redirect to parked domains.
