Form Spam-How to Protect My Website Form From Spam Without a Captcha Code? Is it possible?

Hi Guys
I have a form on my website with a captcha but do not really like captcha as they are not user friendly. The issue is if I remove the captcha I will get spam eventually. So is there a way to use forms without using captcha code and it will block spam bots? What is the best way in your opinion?

Millions of thanks

Chloe

I started using this (the basic version, not the upsells) yesterday on a few Wordpress sites and it appears to be working well as I've received email notices of attempts to infiltrate my sites.

I personally using WP spam shield WordPress plugin to protect my blog from spam. It works perfect with comments, contact forms as well as registration form. I think you should try them out.

The answer is to use honey pot fields. These will block almost all spam software, but will be completely transparent to almost all users.

I wrote (and sell) an email feedback form script that includes this feature - PHP Email Form Script - Forms Processor -secure alternative to formmail - Here is the relevant part from the manual (copied and pasted) which explains how these fields work

Here is how honey pot fields works:

      - Spammers generally use software to automatically fill-out and submit
      forms contain spam submissions.

      - These types of software will generally make best guesses on how to
fill-out forms based on field names, etc.

      - A "honey pot field" is a special field that you can add to your form
that must be left blank, or left set to a required value. If the
honey pot field does not contain the right value - as would generally
be the case if spam software is used to fill-out the form - then
      the submission is automatically discarded.

      - To prevent real users from entering the wrong values into these
honey pot field(s), we can make them invisible to the human eye (but not
      to spam software) using CSS.
You can implement this yourself if you are a programmer, or use a script that has this feature.

If implementing yourself, you need to be aware of some additional things that you need to handle:

      1. Some browsers may not handle CSS (rare but could happen)

      2. Some visually impaired users use software that fills out or auto-completes forms. You need to make sure that they are not treated as spammers.

      Hope this helps

I use WP Smamshield like someone said above. It doesn't have captcha and yes it blocks spam.
