Good sources for understanding conversion rates

I'm trying to better familiarize myself with successful and unsuccessful funnels and understand what average conversion rates are for various methods.

What sources out there would you guys recommend for doing this?

Articles?

Books?

I always recommend learning how they work on the very fundamental level first. Look into how a sales funnel influences the human mind. A book that I strongly recommend is Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. It's about how influence has a psychological effect on the mind. If you can understand that then you can understand how to raise the conversion rate of a sales funnel. Good luck!

I just read something in another context that applies perfectly here...

"Average" value is a statistical construct.

Statistics are worthless when the sample size is one.

The Lean Startup by Eric Ries will give you a lot of good information on this topic, though if you want to get specifically into sales funnel information, a course may be a better method of focusing in. There are a lot of different sales funnels out there, though a basic one looks like this:

    Lead Magnet or Content Upgrade > Low-cost, Low-risk Product > Flagship Product > High-end High-value Product.
