Auto-play alternatives

Survey time....

I recently built a squeeze page with an explainer video above the fold.

Currently the video is set to autoplay, which ensures that the video gets played, but we know that it can annoy some people.

I want to test the bounce rate of auto-play vs non auto-play, so I'm going to create a split test.

My question to you is... in the non-auto-play version of the squeeze page, how do I get visitors to click on the video?

Do I use a graphic with an arrow that says "Click here to play"?

That sounds a little unoriginal...

What ideas do you have to increase video plays for non-auto-play videos?

I prefer the manual pay. Sometimes it make me bore, when someone use the auto play. I think you use the use the "Click here to play button". Who will be interested to see the video, he will use the button. Thanks

Have a big play button in the center of the video and leave no other options on the page for clicking. Between hitting the buy button or the play button, most people will work out what to do.

What are you using to host the video? As far as I know both YouTube and Vimeo have play buttons over the video before they are clicked on. It should be obvious to the visitor that there's a video there and they need to click on it to play it.

Be sure to use a poster image for the video that suggests that there's something worth watching for. For example, if you have a bullet list in the video that gets displayed one-by-one as you talk about them, show some of the bullets -- enough to prove that you've got some good ones -- but don't show all of them (at least if it's obvious that they're not all displayed yet), so that people have to watch to see the rest.

Or you might choose an image that shows that something potentially interesting or entertaining is about to happen, but multiple outcomes are possible -- eg. a frame in the middle of an action shot. Then, people will watch to see how it turns out.

If you want to be original add a timed popup figure that says "How Come You Haven't Clicked on the Video Already ?".

Then wait a while and replace it with "Come on just click it."
Be creative and make the character look and speak with an accent- maybe Bronx or Jersey

Thanks to both of you guys. Great ideas. You both gave me great examples. Now I'll put my creative hat on and come up with something just as clever to pull of the same effect
