Blog Posts and Emails: Do you link back to site or past blog content into email?

Hey guys,

When you use your email marketing tool to push new blog posts to subscribers, do you send emails with a short snippet of the blog post then a link back to your site that shows the full post, or do you send the actual blog post as an email?

What are your thoughts to both? Pros? Cons?

    My main thing is:

    - Posting a link back to the actual blog post is good because it leads visitors to your site.
    - Posting a link back to the actual blog post is bad because not everyone who opens the emails click the link

    - Posting the raw text/blog content and sending it as an email is good because users immediately open the email, take in the valuable content, and over time, subconsciously start trusting you / feeling a relationship build.

Thus far -- I'm leaning more toward sending blog posts as emails (text) rather than link backs to the full posts.

    Thoughts?

I'm seeing it this way... Your blog is public place, while your email list is more private area (for those who subscribed to your list).

Therefore, I would post article to the blog, and then write a more personalized and friendly email to my subscribers with a short backstory, explanation what they will learn in blog post and link to the actual blog post for those who want to read it.

I really don't think you should have anything doing with someone who feels it's such a big deal getting on to your site from his email.

There can be many options and every person has its own style. Internet Marketing requires creation of your goodwill, your brand. So a person should recognise you, your way of work, your style of writing. The same should establish in their sub-conscious mind. So whatever way u adopt it hardly matters. The point is that ur subscribers should read ur mail. Adopt one way and continue with it. Repetition will help establish ur brand.

    Wish u luck!

I have always sent a one sentence email with a link to a blog post.

Its so much easier than dealing with spam filters. My spam score is always zero this way.

I always get a good amount of click through to the posts.

As camohit as stated in his comment above, you should have your own style and this will enable your readers to connect with you.

Try different formats and see which convert better.

Personally when I email my subscribers with a new post I include a unique summary, a link back and then a short paragraph on why they should click the link.

Let us know how you get on ahakimi.

^^Yes, this is what i do. It's all about your objective. My personal objective would be to make sales. So if there is a reason for me to lead people to my blog from my emails... then i will email them a teaser and get them to click on the link to my blog - and then let the monetization options kick-in.
