I need to zip an ebook

I need to zip an ebook and upload it to my website for download. I'm really after the download box. i.e. right click to save page as etc. How do I zip a file or folder?

    How big is the book? Unless it's a massive file, you don't really need to zip a PDF ebook. A series of MP3 files are good to zip, but not really a small PDF,

      If you have windows XP this shows you how to create and password protect a zip file.

      I do not have a vista machine in front of me so I do not know if the password option works in vista.

      However, the creating a zip file does. Just right click on the file and select send to compressed file.

      The reason I am not sure password protecting works in vista is I have 2008 server which is similar to vista and I can crate a zip file using these instructions but I had to use my XP workstation to password protect the file.

      You did not ask about password protecting but I thought I would let you know how easy it was to do in case you wanted to protect your download.

      dalvia, is correct unless you want to password protect your e-book there is usually no major reason to put a pdf into a zip file.

        In windows XP just select all the files you want zipped and right click on them and choose send to>compressed folder. If you have winzip select the files then right click and choose winzip option and zip them.

        Thanks for the info. Its a 19 page ebook. I have put it on my website and when the url is clicked to download there is no down load box. I know it can still be downloaded, I just thought it would look better to have a download box.

        I use windows XP.

          I'm not sure if this is what you're after, but if you'll save the file to your server with a ".zip" extension, a window like the one below will open giving you the choice to open or save the file. Of course, if you've checked the box to perform the action automatically, you won't see the window at all.

    If you right click the file there should be an option that allows you to save the file as a .zip extension.. just click that.

    If you have windows XP all you got to do is right click the file look for Send To -> this will open up another window box look for Compressed (zipped) Folder that should do it for ya. It will also have a little folder with a zipper in the middle.
