Stick with expensive platform or go with something else?

Hi everyone.

I created a product a few months back and decided to use a coaching platform to deliver it. The product consists of audios and worksheets. It is not downloadable. Customers need to log in to the platform to use it. I pay $500 a year to use the platform.

Last year I only sold one of these.

My next plan was to take my product, lighten it up, edit the audios so they're better (this was my first audio product so I've learned a lot and improved since then) and then re-launch the product as a download and get rid of the expensive coaching platform.

Well, I gained a new person on my list a few days ago and she wrote to me today and said she's going to be purchasing my product on the coaching platform. I charge $500 for the product, so if she buys it it will cover the cost of the platform for the next year. But, I'll break even and won't make a profit - assuming no one else buys it.

I'm debating whether to continue with the expensive platform, or close it out and allow this lady to download the audios, and then give her the new product for free. It seems only fair if she's paid for the course. It wouldn't be right to shut down her access after just a couple of months of making the purchase.

Pros of sticking with the old platform: it would be paid for, and it's already connected to my paypal and website. Also, they have very good support, so if my customers have issues they have someone to go to who can help them. I have the option of making my products on the platform downloadable or not, which means I don't have to worry about my audios being pirated or given away.

Cons of sticking with it: If I update my product, it only lets new customers see it. Customers who bought the older version don't see the new one. Also, it's expensive and a bit cumbersome to use.

What would you do? Would you take the lady's money, then scrap the expensive platform and compensate her with downloads and a free product, or would you stick with the old platform and hope for more sales?

Thanks!

If she purchase from me , I would go ahead and stick with the old platform. I mean at least I would be breaking even and your platform is already set up correctly. I would surly go to jQuery Plugins - Bootstrap Plugins - WordPress Plugins | CodeCanyon and look up another cheaper platform. CodeCanyon has tons of cheaper scripts and plugins to do exactly what you are trying to do. Plus it is only one time payment instead of yearly. Best of luck!

    Hi,
You don't have to stick with your old platform.I suggest you to built your own website using WordPress.I bet it will cost you total $200(website + domain + hosting). you have to pay $50 to $80 per year not for your website but for your domain and hosting..

Hi, I'm in a very similar situation, i.e. am just launching a high-ticket training product that will be delivered online via a membership platform.

Did a lot of research and finally decided on this setup:

    - Wordpress. Cost - free
    - Wishlist Member (to handle payments and membership access - it integrates awesomely with Paypal, don't even need to set up buy buttons in Paypal, all done within Wishlist Member). Cost - $197 one time
    - WP Courseware (to set up course units and modules. Integrates with Wishlist Member so that users only access courses they pay for). Cost - $99 one time

I'm really happy with the setup, and if content is updated, members get access to the new content.

      Hi John.

I really like your idea. My website is a WP site. I'm going to look into this ASAP. I probably won't be able to set this up myself as I'm not a techie. But, I'm sure I can find someone who can!

      Thanks!

        You're welcome, Kim!

FYI, both these plugins come with excellent setup tutorial videos.
