Distribute my software by myself or sell the distribution rights to Intermediary

A few years ago i developed an information system for special, small entrepreneurs. Until now i haven't made anything with it. I am good at developing but luck of skills to sell. I only know one ltd personally
and maybe they will not buy either.

Today a media company was called me that they are interested in my solution.
However it was just a short call but the sales man told me that they want to buy the distribution rights.
First i was happy that they need my software. But after a while i became upset.
They would pay relatively high price but it is for one time only.

I was thinking about how can i get more revenue from it. Selling myself is too hard bit at the moment(i have no team, having no experience in selling and marketing)
I came up here to ask Warrior community what business model would be valuable for me?
I was thinking how can i get exclusive rights the stay the developer and get charge for updates.

This might work out for you.

    Retain update/upgrade/core IP rights.

Just sell them the distribution rights for THIS version.

    Why?

If they do a good job, you can distribute FUTURE upgraded versions

well the solution is based on php so it so its relativly easy to develop for it.

Hey, the best thing to do is to advertise and partner with someone who has experience in what you are trying to do. It is possible for you to connect with a real salesman and he or she show you the direct path to take on
        this subject matter.

          Hey arrival7,

well the market is relativly well defined.
I know exactly that who may use my software solution.
The problem is that i am a technical guy,if i go directly to the business
they would ignore me because i have no background.
The distributor have already a name in the industry so they can sell easily

One way would be to follow Microsoft and Licence the software , that way you say in control of the process and you dictate the price

I strongly agree with the other posters, you can also find other companies like the one that contact you and offer a contract to them. Nine times out of ten, if one company wants your software, I am sure others would want your solution as well.

I'd agree with the licensing route.

There's a cost involved in marketing the software yourself. If you don't want to go down this route then licensing your software for an annual free would be a good option to consider.

If you own the software then you can call the shots.

If they need it badly then they'll agree to licensing it from you.

You said yourself you're not good at selling so this is indeed a great opportunity to monetize this product. I would negotiate a higher price or some sort of licensing deal where you get paid for each product sold.
