Best way to build something similar to yelp?

I am looking to build a website where users can submit reviews on locations that can be searched on a map. Similar to yelp and I have seen a few yelp clone scripts, some were on drupal or wordpress.

Any suggestions on the best way to do this? / which cms if any?

  • Actually, I did something similar for someone about 2 years ago. We used a Wordpress theme named Geotheme, and got someone from freelancer.com to complete the site. There are tons of Wordpress themes for the yelp type sites. I would go with Wordpress instead of the clones because you never know when the creators of the clone scripts will shut down, and will not continue to advance the script. Their are many who can work on Wordpress themes and plugins so this may be your best bet.

    If you don't like the Geotheme theme. Just google "the best wordpress themes for a directory" and you will see all of the themes you can choose from.

      The very best way is to find a great developer and hire him/her to build the site for you. Of course, you will be looking at a substantial investment.

      Since you said nothing about your budget, you can't do better than to have a talented developer do a custom job for you so that you get everything exactly the way you want.
