What are uses of article marketing?

I have seen guys are talking about getting their articles which are published on EZA, goarticles.com (and more) to be listed on top #5 or something on google. Why do they think so?

I think most of the people are using EZA and other article directories to get backlinks, Are there anything more than this?

    I have been seeing a steady increase in my articles at articlesbase.com, other than that EZA is still leading in traffic. It does not hurt to use different article directories for backlinks and every once in a while you might see some decent traffic from it, especially if you social bookmark your articles.

    You will also get traffic directly from the links in the article signature, you will get the backlink advantages and you will get content for your site. Use the article on your site first, then submit to EZA, then mass submit the article, use it for a Squidoo lens, and then maybe video articles to submit to video sites.

      Simply put, articles are like little seeds. Keep planting them, nurture them with your blogs and article directories. They need to be linked and pinged and rss'ed. Do that, and they will bear the sacred fruit of traffic!

    Articles are the ultimate online marketing machines for a few reasons - they are free, easy to get started with, and you can literally get traffic in a dozen ways.

    If you submit an article to an article directory, you are guaranteed to get some traffic out of it. But where your traffic will increase is in higher search engine rankings and ezine publishers grabbing and using your article in their publications, giving you more viral traffic.

    At the same time, you get to build your backlink count to your website with articles. This increases the search engine popularity of your website. Websites with more higher quality backlinks get precedence over other less qualified sites in the search engines.

    One of the famous answer to this , is to market your product or affiliate program that you belong to. For example if you visit popular Ezine directory such as Ezine.com and GoArticle.com, you will see lot of article being posted there will have link to their landing page ,at the the authors signature. Why is this ? because of getting as much lead to the landing page.

    Short answer: free traffic generation to make money.

    Article marketing goes hand-in-hand with web2.0 (text, audio, video).
    You can get a lot of mileage out of it through leverage.

    And when you convert some of that traffic, you make money.
