45 quality leads a day...NOW WHAT!?

Ok so here's the story.

I'm actually not a total newbee. But I am. Because after 5 years of IM I'm just now learning how to do this stuff!!! LOL.

So what I did was on the weekend I started an Adwords campaign...which is a story all it's own and the way I came up with the campaign is really weird! But it worked.

Anyway, I have a real domain for this campaign and at first it was just a review site for Clickbank products. No sales.

Then my business partner suggested I do a squeeze page...which I did.

The squeeze page was thrown together very quickly, not in the traditional big red headline either, actually made it within the site's template and just put a quick description.

I saw people signing up...great! So I upped my daily budget to $10 from $5.

This morning I wake up and check the stats...22 signups! Crazy. Why crazy? Because I didn't even do much work or put much research into the niche or site. Literally spent about 3 hours total...okay maybe more, but that's because of the way I did it, which I don't want to share right now.

So this morning I freak out, lol, since I didn't expect that response, and go throw up some messages to be in the email campaign (yeah didn't even have any Follow-up messages qeued) and blasted it for those who already signed up.

My thinking was that I wanted them to know they signed up successfully and begin building a relationship on a name basis.

Next I upped my budget again to $20 a day. The signups keep rolling in. Up to 45 and have spent about $19 for them.

Now in my past experiences with testing niches using Adwords I've never had this kind of result...so I'm SUPER pleased. And as a quick note I must give credit where it's due: I had just prayed over my business last night...seriously, because I lost my job recently and need some income SOON (I have a little daughter and own a home) and don't want to go back to the corporate world.

So I prayed for the success of my business and for just support and help...I truly believe my actions on this whole thing, including the seeming crazy way I chose the niche, etc., was inspired by God.

Ok, back to my reason for sharing this.

So now I have between 45 to 50 leads rolling in daily...Now WHAT!? Right now I'm sending targeted and relevant information on the niche topic to them via email...which actually links back to my site. I do still have the affiliate products on my site in review format.

Anyway, I'd love some guidance from you folks out there who have experience with how to develop your list and treat it right and make money from it...even in an obscure niche like mine.

ADDITION:
Just as a quick addition I want to say that Yes I am tracking the keywords so I know what keywords bring the signups, all the way to clicking on one of the affiliate links using CB's tracking. Also, here's the numbers:

Clicks: 174
CTR: Search is 4%; Content is 1.4%
Signups: 46
Cost: 19.84

Thanks in advance!

Have you thought about making a product or a continuity type site.....

You could throw together a product using PLR in a day flat if you wanted to.....

Or you could use the plr ebook and use the chapters as your weekly content for a membership type site...

    Just a couple of suggestions.

Make sure you give your subscribers quality content and lots of it, you could just have a short post at the bottom announcing a product in the niche or, overtime, write a review of a product to send to your subscribers.

Ooo, I love this, awesome. Thanks!!

It's funny cuz I really don't even know anything about this niche...AT ALL. So I'm definitely going to make that one of my To-Do's: getting educated on it.

    Hi John

I think for you as a newbie who's not making any money with IM so far, it is not a good idea to use PPC for building a list while not even promoting a product. I believe it would be better to also promote a product at the same time. As far as a squeeze page is concerned IMO stand-alone squeeze pages are always better. Your PPC ads should attract buyers not just people who may only be looking for info about the topic.

For instance when i write an ad for a PPC campaign, I try to make sure that the person who clicks the ad should have no doubt about the fact that I am trying to sell something.

You should better plan out things first before spending much on PPC, as you said that you put together the follow up message only after having some subscribers. I said so cause I think when you have learnt enough about promoting a product with PPC you should have some budget left for PPC ads to get things moving.

I think it'd be good if you can start another PPC campaign and use it to promote a product without a squeeze page where the person who clicks the ad should be directed straight to the sales page and split your existing budget. I am sure you'll be able to make few sales if the product and ads are right.

Maybe I was unclear in my post...I'm not actually a newbee, just finally "getting it" and it's all coming together and gelling for me. But I've been doing this stuff for about 5 years and have done the direct to sales page a LOT. I'm moving into new water for me, thus a newbee in it.

I am sorry, I thought you were learning stuff for that long and have never actually marketed anything along, actually it was your excitement about the number of subscriber you've had in a day that had me misread it. It's quite easy to get lot of targeted traffic with PPC. I've had bad experience with PPC in the past so I try to warn people if I see someone doing experiments with it... Anyways the stand-alone squeeze page still stands true i guess.

        Good luck

    Hi John,

    A couple of things:

I disagree with Aarons suggestion - don't waste your time throwing together a crap rehashed PLR product, you have more important things to look at.

Scarfeet is more on-track, just getting generic signups is not the same as building a list of buyers.

Right now you're building a list - but it's a list of people who haven't bought anything - and perhaps never will.

Since you know you can turn the tap on and off - stop spending money until you know you can make it back.

Send an offer to your list - This will quickly tell you where to focus.

You sort of did things backwards really by building a list before having stuff to sell them and a backend.

If you're not already doing it - track all of the clicks your visitors make and also check your logs to see what search terms they got to you under.

Think about the words you're using in your PPC ad and what expectation it will be setting for the people who click on it. If you're setting an expectation that there's something to buy - make sure you offer it to them as soon as possible.

There's a massive difference between a list of interested people and a list of buyers so try to get your system filling with buyers.

Research what relevant things are available with affiliate programs and then plug them in to your autoresponder so that every new contact gets exposed to them over a period of time (along with your content). Doing reviews works well, especially if you give reviews of things that you suggest not to buy.

See what they want to buy and when you're making money - turn on your PPC again and look at creating your own product based on something you know they will buy. You don't want to spend time and effort creating your own stuff until you already know how and where to sell it.

Thanks! Yeah, my excitement does reflect my poor results with PPC in the past. I'm just thrilled to see it yield these results.

Thanks for your feedback though scarfeet. And the rest of you too, great feedback!!

Where do they go after they hit submit on your opt-in page?

Is there an offer on that page?
