What do you do to stay on track?

One of the biggest reasons why my online business cannot grow as fast as I want it to, is due to my lack of consistency. One day I would be excited to work on my site(s) and then the next few days, I would be lazy as f*ck!

What have you done to stay consistent with your online business?

You call it your business yet it sounds like you treat it like a part-time hobby. Why should your motivation and focus be any different than if it were a brick and mortar business? The way I stay focused on my online business is because it is just that; a business. Time and money is very precious to me. I create a business plan, a budget, and a daily schedule and I stick to them. I wouldn't open a shop down the street and then not show up for a couple of days a week. Maybe you're not passionate about what you're doing?

I don't waste my time and if I notice that I do, I simply stop and set my focus back on my business-tasks for the day. Make ToDo-lists, it'll help you keep on track. Schedules are crucial to a proper workflow. It sounds like you either like passion and/or discipline for your particular interest.

Mainly I stay on track because I have to.

I don't do this as a hobby or sideline. It is my my full time job (if you want to look at it as a job) or my only business.

It is what feeds me, pays the rent/mortgage, keeps my wife in cloths and the kids with whatever they want.

          That's the basic motivation.

But the biggest motivation is that this also let's me do whatever I want, live where I want, go where I want and I don't have to answer to anyone but me (and my wife

The rewards for doing it are huge, the penalties for not doing it are severe. That works for me.

Of course if you do this alongside your "real job", or as a hobby then it'd probably a lot easier to say.. "to heck with this today, I think I'll grab a beer and watch the match!!!"

    #1 BIG WHY

Have a big Why. Why are you doing this?

A big Why pulls you along like a magnet.

    #2 Calendar

I use Google Calendar. If it isn't in there, I'll forget about it.

Having a task scheduled for a specific time makes sure it gets done.

    There's just one rule here:

-- Everything Goes In The Calendar, And The Calendar Shall Be Obeyed!! --

I have everything in there--even taking out the garbage the night before pickup.

You can lay out your implementation tasks this way.

    #3 Spreadsheet

I'm a "list" guy, rather than a mind map guy (those look like someone dropped spaghetti all over the floor to me). So every project, I begin by listing things in a spreadsheet.

Then I organize those thoughts into strategies, programs, and tasks.

(Now you know where the tasks go; if you don't, see #2 above.)

I keep the spreadsheet open all the time to refer to--and frequently 'rediscover' by accident.

    #4 Whiteboard

This is a fairly recent addition. I have learned that if the big Why and some tasks are not IN MY FACE where I can see them, it can be easy for me to "forget" them.

So I have them written on a whiteboard (isn't this nice? I have all these different color pens. Green for money targets. Blue for tasks. Red for planned visitations--yes, I have plans to visit a couple biz peeps this year and shadow them on their jobs to see what they do, who they talk to, and what they talk about. Do you?)

I think the whiteboard was around $15 for a 3x2 from Wallymart--it's big enough. The pens and brush were around $7. Those other things don't cost anything.

Note how I am trained, focused, experienced, and have a Big Why...

    And STILL I get distracted!

Keeping your (mind's) eye on the ball is the number one thing in business. It's way too easy to get drawn off into nonsense that is simply not about making money.

Personally, I utilize Visualization. I take mental snapshots of where I want to be in one month, 6 months, and a year.

What this does is give me clear motivation of where I want to be. And the only way to get there is to do the little things
( and big too ) day in and day out that will get me there.

There is no alternative. If I get a little lazy feeling I just revert back to those mental snapshots to keep me on track.

These snapshots can be anything you want them to be. i.e.Going on a 1 month cruise to Alaska. Driving a brand new car. Telling your wife she can quit her job because you are doing so good etc..etc..

Remind yourself of these Successes you will see in the future if you keep doing the things that truly matter in your Biz

Trust me this will keep the "Train on the Rails"

What I do is that I use evernote and I create a note titled:

"This Week" (you can do this on a piece of paper and hang it some where you will see it)

In that note I dot down the MAIN things I want to accomplish this week, For example I might put something like this.

      - Content Creation
Write a blog post on "XYZ"

      - Website Development
Create a squeeze page for facebook ad
Create a a variation of it (For slit-test)

      - So on..
another task you want to accomplish..

Now I might get inspired to do something else in that week that I did not dot down and I will not hesitate to do it.

But I know that if by the end of this week I got at least most of those things done, then I have made great progress this week and on the weekend I can relax fully knowing that I am moving in the right direction.

And on Sunday night, after two good days of rest I lay out a another basic list of what I want to get done this week. and I also find my self adding to that list during the week.

I do not fill the list with a bunch of task, I dot down maybe up to 4 major task and I leave room for what ever else I might think of during the week as I'm working on things.

Also I know that every day I must contribute to facebook and to the warrior forum as I plan to make these my main sources of traffic.

The key here is to keep it nice and general, and to not be afraid to change the script

I find that if I try to enforce this stuff on my self then I will begin to see it as a chore rather than an exiting action that will move me closer to my success.

I used to do this on a daily basis, like I would tell myself what needed to get done today, but that was leaving me no room for inspired creativity, which is how you keep your motivation engine running.

Instead, now I have a good idea of the main things I want to get done this week, I do them at my own rate and I do what ever else I get inspired to do on that week.

Inspiration mixed with clarity is the key.

You need to be very clear with where you are going with you business and with what your goals are, but at the same time you need to have fun with it and allow your self to get inspired thoughts and to act on them fully!

Writing task down has helped me with my clarity and acting on my excitement has helped me with my motivation and on my creative inspiration.

      Hope that was useful!!

I think you should find the reasons why enjoy doing this job - and stop treating it like a job. To do lists with not so strict deadlines help me for example, but on my to do's I always try to add tasks that vary...that way I think you can't bored. Let us know what worked

      1. Discipline, discipline and discipline.
      2. Separate your emotions so you won't be doing something only when you "feel like it", but always.
      3. Do not focus on all tasks at the same time as it will stress you out. Focus at one task at a time.
      4. Keep your day as simple as it can be, do not overload with tasks.
      5. Meditate and program your subconscious mind with positive affirmations.
      6. Be grateful for the progress you did and keep in mind a clear vision of your goals.
      7. Have a strong WHY.

    Hey,

    The most important element
is that you need a strategy,

If you have a correct strategy
in place and you work on it
    consistently then you will see
    results over time...

If you don't have a strategy in place
then you will feel lazy and you will lack...

When i say strategy i really mean
a decent strategy that you really
    believe in working over time.

If you have a strategy in place and
you still feel lazy then you dun really
    trust your strategy...

Your goals and dreams are important
but to achieve them you need a solid
plan of action, a decent strategy that
    you believe in,

If you believe in your strategy
then nothing can really stop you
    from your dreams by being
    consistence and taking action
    and setting things done..

If you still lack of laziness then
it can be of your previous bad
habits which you really need to
work on, and a lot o times its all
    in the mind set...

Things you can do t break bad habits is
to do what others have mentioned...
Write down your daily and weekly targets
    and make sure its done...

I can get in to a lot of things just in mindset
    ad bad habit...

    Hope that would help....

First, learn about self-discipline. Learn HOW to be disciplined in your business.

Next, create a schedule for yourself, allotting time for downtime, errands...all the "other" stuff that makes up your day aside from your online work. Make it as detailed as YOU need it to be. Some students of mine need a schedule that leaves no minute during their IM workday unscheduled. It's got to be that way until they learn the discipline they need.

Habits take awhile to form, but they can be learned. Learn to schedule your time, and you will be amazed at how much more productive your days become.

As for being lazy...holy hell, I am the laziest motherf*cker around. BUT, I've learned over the years that...well, you know how people who are dieting say, "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels?"

I say, "Being lazy feels pretty crappy when the alternative is to be swimming in money."

No amount of to-do lists or anything of that nature will change your laziness. You'll just look at the things you need to do and go "meh, maybe tomorrow."

You shouldn't need to force yourself to do something, some tasks are a little more tedious than others admittedly, but if you have a real white-hot burning desire to achieve success and you know WHY you're doing it and what your end goal is, you don't need to THINK about "working" you just do it...

The problem is in your head. You may be telling yourself this is something you want to do but clearly it isn't...

Ask yourself, why did you start your online business in the first place? What was the end goal? Were you worried about failing?

How would you feel if you failed now and wasted this opportunity?

Picture yourself now in 6 months time, with a failed business, no cash, and people are taking the piss out of you... Does that feel good?

Alternatively, picture 6 months down the line, and your income has doubled, and you've outsourced the the tedious work you used to do to someone else. So now you have twice as much time, and twice as much cash... How does that feel? What are you planning to do next?

Seriously, spend some time visualising this and think about it deeply.

Hope you took something away from this post. Would be a shame to waste all of the hard work you've done so far...

You just have to learn how to discipline yourself, and hold yourself accountable. The best way i've found to do this is by creating a daily marketing plan. Everyday follow the marketing tasks for each day, then get off the computer and enjoy the rest of your day. Your productivity will skyrocket if you do it this way.

Listen, Motivation is never lasting. You have to motivate yourself EVERYDAY to take massive action and push your business further. I do this by having a set of rituals that I do every morning regardless of the circumstances. I listen to Tony Robbins incantation "I am the Voice" (Search it on YouTube) and put myself in a PEAK STATE.

This along with 20 minutes of meditation every morning will massively enhance your focus and emotional intelligence so that you can take yourself out of boredom and laziness and take action regardless. Start implement these two habits daily and you'll see a massive difference in productivity!

You have to set your intentions before it's too late bro. If you don't make it happen, you'll waste time and slowly get pushed to the edge where you have no choice but to do something massive.

It's all about the habits. You gotta work more on yourself. Entrepreneurship is an inward journey. People who don't deserve to be successful will never be successful. You gotta put in the work consistently.

Motivate yourself and keep reminding yourself why you need to make it happen. Motivation is a daily thing so you need to read books and listen to audios. You need to realize that in order for you to move forward, you need a change of habits. That's something only you can do once you make the decision to do so.

That used to my problem. I just graduated from high school back then and it felt so good to be free. I took advantage of it and became lazy to the point where things got crazy. I had to change my ways. I plugged into books, video courses on leadership and motivation and changed everything about me even the music I listened to inspired me.

It's gonna a tough journey but I tell you...it's gonna be worth it. My dad always told me "The people who dream of living a comfortable life are usually the one's who struggle because they relax too much. The people who who work hard are the one's who live a comfortable life." Just make it happen.. :-)

What gets measured gets managed - also have a very clear idea what your business is and break down every single thing into small sub tasks. That way you can work at them with the "don't make me think" attitude if you are lazy - and use a Pomodoro technique - I swear by it!

I use videos like Tony Robbins and Brian Tracy. Find and focus on good or being busy not being lazy.

I think its more of a personal question but you need to develop the habbit of doing things even when you don't want to do them if you want any chance of success.

Although I am new to the internet stuff. My approach for remaining focused is simple:

I simply wrote out a planned 'schedule' for the day which ensures short time frames where the chances of me becoming distracted are minimal.

so for example ill wake up at 7 or 7:30 depending if I am being lazy and hit snooze then ill have it clearly planned in that my first two hours will be focused on one thing, say your website / blog / youtube ....whatever the focus is. Then ill do something away from my computer so I'm not tempted to be lazy and refresh facebook over and over. Ill plan in an hour of Going to the gym / cooking food / housework / some sort of hobby.....whatever keeps you occupied. Then ill have it planned for the next two hours solid ill work on my next thing......(insert next productive task here) .....then ill repeat the cycle....move away from my computer for half an hour or so. I genuinely feel these shorter, yet focused timeslots work for me. When I sat down at my computer with no clear, written down short term goals to achieve I was just procrastinating or yunno watching bloody cat videos or aimlessly scrolling through forums haha!

small incremental goals is key I think in anything.... my goal for the day may be to write a blog post or search for things to sell, it may also be to smash out a 10k run...so separating things into timeslots has been much more effective for me to remain focused. doing something as simple as writing it down really makes you attack it. When my mind starts to wander and I start watching epic fail videos on youtube I figure its probably time to move away from my computer and go focus on a different goal that isn't business related.
