How can I research sites that are making money

What techniques do you all use to find sites that are making money and getting traffic?

Are there specific tools you use?

I do a few things to keep up on the competition. Firstly, if you're seeing it around a lot and seems to be generating some buzz for a significant amount of time, I take note. I'm talking about places like traffic exchanges, the safelist email world, You Tube results, and places like that. When you have a program in mind found in those places you can do a Google search and see what pops up...Is there a lot of action? what about the Alexa ranking?

Things like this can give you a ballpark idea on how profitable another persons or company's site is doing.

Go to Similar Web and you can learn a lot about any site that gets a decent amount of traffic. There are many other ways but this site will get you started.

I usually just search specific keywords on Google. For example Blog: (Keyword). I study the sites that are on the 1st page esp the top 3 and just take a look at the site. You can pretty much tell if they're making money based from the interaction in the site, going through the content, the testimonials and even the Alexa ranking.

As for tools, I'd say a blog, consistency and boosting posts on FB which then increases traffic + shares + interaction which boosts their search engine rankings. I know a bunch of people who do business like this. If you drop by a blog and you see the owner's name, you can also search him up on Google, FB and YT.
