Googles Omitted Search Results

Does anybody know exactly why Google omits some search results and not others?

I heard that it does this if there are other similar pages from the same website in the serps, but this does not seem to be the case for me.

I have a term which was on page one yesterday and today it has been slotted into the omitted results... Man that sucks... I have no other pages on the serps for this term, so why would they omit my result? It is a completely original content page referring to a service in a particular area.... I dont get it?

Does anybody understand the omitted search results critera?

Cheers

Supplemental SERPs is duplicate or very similar pages.

When I say very similar I mean pages that are borderline duplicate.

It's also possible for a stronger authority domain to scrape pages, rank the scraped page & get the original domain page buried in Supplemental SERPs.

I'm not sure why you didn't post this in the SEO forum.

hmm, all I can think of is that other business offer similar services, but really, it's not very competitive if it doesn't even show up?

Yes it's when the pages are very similar or duplicates.

If the page really is in Supplemental SERPs odds are there's another page already indexed with the same content or even a same page title.

How are you checking the page is indexed, some 3rd party tool or incognito browser?

I am just looking at Google results for the term searched. And when it didn't show up, I checked the omitted results and it showed up on the first page. There are no other websites showing up on that page with the same content as mine... the nature of the business is obviously the same for all companies so I the services offered are very similar throughout all the results on the first page for this term... I still don't understand why mine was filtered out.

Google recently announced that Panda is now an integral part of their main algo, and according to Yoast, is favoring listing the actual company pages for brand name keywords.

So if you were ranking for "Joe's Supper Club" and Joe had a page of his own, Google would favor Joe's page over yours. Even if your content is "unique", if it provides the same basic info as Joe's, it might drop into supplemental for your term.

The only omissions I've experienced is with Word Press implementing a "do not follow" by default on all of the postings I did through them.

Nowadays, no matter what I submit online, I always utilize this Google Indexing Tool:

    https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...bmit-url?pli=1

I suggest that everyone uses this and then wait AT LEAST 24 hours to see if your information got indexed.
