Which Business Model Do YOU Prefer?

I'm not asking which you think is better? Either one can work very well. I'm
asking which one you prefer.

Model 1 - Promoting a single product targeted to a specific keyword phrase
or phrases through a sales page.

Model 2 - Promoting an authority site in a broad niche that sells many
different products that are loosely related.

In either case, you can duplicate for multiple products or authority sites.

So which one do you like better?

I'm making this a poll so I can see at a glance what the preference is but
you can post your comments here too.

I voted Single Product Sales Page. From a buyers perspective I get distracted easily so multiple product sites can lose me in the browsing and I never buy. Single product pages force me down a path.

    Steven,

    Your question isn't clear enough.

Do you mean, do we prefer it as a customer or as a business owner?

Those are two different points of view, and someone might answer it differently depending on how they thought you meant it.

Could you please clarify what you mean?

    Thanks.

Well...there are kinda 2 sides to this story.

Normally I prefer 1 site with 1 product.

But...lets take the IM niche for example...once you get a couple of products going, you make a central hub with your business name or something and put all the products in there.

While still promoting the individual sites, you start promoting your central hub too.

Why does it have to be 'either or'?

You can significantly increase your bottom
line profits if you set up a central portal, or
authority, site together with "satellite" sites
that are each dedicated to a single product
    or topic.

Your product sites will attract tightly targeted
traffic and you can then redirect buyers to
your portal with a "Customers who bought
this also purchased from this range" message.

John, I'm not saying it has to be either or. I'm asking if people
have a preference...nothing more, nothing less.

Im going with an authority site with many products - simply because its difficult enough getting traffic for one site. Imagine many

    I would choose 1.

I had one site, multiple products. Then when I stripped everything and kept it focus on one, my sales went through the roof.

I spend the majority of my time on multiple product sites..

But there is also a huge portion of my business that is directly focused on building single products sites... so.. with that said...

You need a 3rd option to your poll:

    BOTH!

    Peace

Jay, I purposely left out both because I wanted to know if
people had a preference of one over the other.

Sure, you probably like chocolate and vanilla ice cream but if
you had to choose just one of them, which would you choose?

There is a definite reason why I forced a choice of the two
      and thus left out both.

I have to say both. You should have both as a 3rd choice in the poll.

    Single Product Sales Page.

I often find myself tempted to buy whatever IMers are offering, but it is ALWAYS curbed when I suddenly realize I don't have a credit card and the price have to be multiplied by a factor of 3.6.

I have used both business models, however, I've found that my single product sites convert better.

From a selling point of view I would go for option 2 only because I am a firm believer that you should never put all your eggs in one basket

I vote for number 1: It's much easier to get higher conversions than an authority site and can much more money without the added work of managing a authority site.

I am getting more profit via authority site-multiple products rather than single one
So, I just like it, however, I am sure, if we drive huge traffic for both the methods, We can get more sales depends on the traffic (targetted traffic)

      Hi Steven,

I prefer Model 1 - Promoting a single product targeted to a specific keyword phrase or phrases through a sales page.

Primarily because of my ability to write the copy for a single product sales page myself that can cost a lot of money to have someone else write it for you. I feel more focused as well...

      Cheers,

I prefer authority sites as I like taking a customer all the way from first time visitor through to long term customer, but I do single product sites too

I actually put together authority sites that sell a single product.

Your product needs to be somewhat versatile to do this however.

I would think your product would have to be very generic and broad based
      to pull this off.

I tried to do this in the health niche, and while I was able to sell the
highly targeted products (from a special products page) the "generic" product
that I was trying to sell failed miserably.

I think sites like Amazon.com (I'm not even sure how to classify them as
they're not really an authority in one niche) is the ideal model if you can
pull it off. Think about how many millions of customers from all different
      niches they must have.
