Like anything. It depends upon how you work it.

For me personally, I've done MLM on and off the last 20 years. I've done several networks. Two of them I made 5 figures profit, and one I made 6 figures profit. So for me, it's worked.

Also, here's a few factors, in general, to keep in mind:

      1. Pick a good company/opportunity.
      2. It's best if the opportunity is world-wide or available in a lot a of countries.
      3. Helps if the opportunity also works for online marketing/recruiting
      4. Helps if you get involved while the company/opportunity is still early/young.
      5. Have a duplicatable system you can easily teach/explain.
      6. Join with a sponsor who knows what they're doing and can help you.
      7. Don't expect to get lucky. You might. But have realistic expectations and a real plan.

  • Anyone can succeed in online MLM. All you need are:

    1. A funnel that sell for you. (Opt in>VIdeo>email follow up)
    2. Learn how to get new leads DAILY.
    3. Stay consistent in getting new leads everyday.
    4. Believe in yourself.
    5. Never give up.

    • Is it that simple really? How about the millions ana hundreds who have failed. Of late, I have actually discovered that online marketing is not necessarily different from offline mlm recruiting. These 5 steps you have outlined cannot be mastered by "ANYONE". The very reason I tell my clients to be honest with themselves and see if they have what it takes to build an mlm business online. Nope, it is not that simple. And not everyone can do it.

  • These are all excellent tips! How about throwing some paid advertising into the mix? A reputable solo ad vendor can help bring people to your list with targeted traffic as well.

    • Here's my experience with MLM . . . I have none.

I admit I can not help you if you want MLM marketing advice.

But I continue to be skeptical about suggesting MLM as your business model for a new recruit. This is why . . .

I have always been a push-over for friends and family who approach me to discuss a "great and marvelous business opportunity - all it will take is 45 minutes of your time!" I can't say "No" to my friends.

After listening to probably 25 different MLM "pitches" during my adult life, I have never been convinced to join one of them.

      Why?

      Because . . .

I have never seen one of the people that pitched me ever make any significant money in the business themselves. Of the 25 different MLM recruits that tried to recruit me, not one was still in the MLM business after one year. Every single one of them ditched MLM because they couldn't make a living with it (for probably a host of different reasons.)

Yes, my experience may be different from yours. But to me, out of 25 cases, the fact that not one person was successful tells me that it's probably not a good business model (MLM) for the average person looking to make a living online.

Whatever it takes to be profitable in MLM, I doubt that most people have it.

      Just my thoughts,

      Steve

    Here's another tip:

8.) Spend some money to brand yourself as a network marketer. Here's what I mean. A lot of people are skeptical of anyone who say's they've 'started their own business,' only to find out later that's it just being an independent distributor for an MLM. Being a distributor instantly looses credibility in many people's minds because it doesn't look like a real traditional business. So, don't tell people you started a new business. Rather, tell people you do network marketing. Then get business cards for your networking biz, put up a website for it. Set up a separate FB page or linkedin page for it. Have a professional looking video made, promoting yourself. Have a photographer takes some nice pictures of you. Hire a graphics designer to help you. Print up some flyers or brochures. In other words, look the part. Show people that you are serious enough about your networking endeavor to actually spend some money and time to brand yourself accordingly. That gives people more confidence that you are serious, and therefore maybe your opportunity is worth looking at.
  • To succeed a MLM business, you need to BUILD YOUR OWN LIST and maintain good relationship to them. It is the key whatever traffic method that you pick. DO NOT IGNORE IT.
  • All in all, decent tips... but far too complicated.

Learn to simplify your process and that $60K income
    will increase ten fold.

  • Indeed, some people will get what it takes to build mlm online and they will explode their business, while others will completely fail to get it. Just like some have built their organization offline while some have never made a single dime with that strategy. Bottom line though is, I will never ever go back to offline prospecting, especially hounding friends and family.

  • Great thread and solid advice. It's refreshing to see more and more MLM threads on here as there is far too much misconception about the industry as a whole. Now, of course there are bad apples within the industry, but that can also be said for corporate America as well.

Truth is, it's a business and if you treat it as such... You can earn a lot of money in multi level marketing. I'd like to also point out that while having a secondary option may be a good idea especially if you're selling a product or service that not everyone wants such as vitamins as the OP mentioned, if you find a MLM that has a product/service that EVERYONE can use/wants/needs, then you only need one MLM to work in. (Which I have)

I'll give an example: How many people do you know that buy groceries, gas, clothes, or anything else... or shop at stores either online or offline. Just about everyone I know does this. Also, timing can be BIG in the industry but you also have to watch out for HYPE.

Also agree, not everyone is cut out for the industry as it takes some serious dedication and a solid mindset along with continued personal development. Many fail as they do in traditional IM. Find a solid team, upline with support on tap (including being available for 3 way calls which is BIG when you're learning the ropes) and training.

  • every product (both tangible and intangible) needs a bit of marketing to be sold. MLM is marketing. Whether the company pays a MLM comp plan or whether the company pays TV commercials: it both means costs. It means that MLM products are not necessarily overpriced.

I think forex is a very smart MLM product choice ! Not because forex is intangible, but because forex attracts gamblers. MLM attracts gamblers, too. So anyone who loves this product is likely to also like MLM, and vice versa.

  • That's great advice. Getting involved with a 'great' community of marketers allows you to feed off their energy or 'synergy' and gets your business into momentum a lot faster.

I personally haven't had much success with Paid Ads. But I have seen YouTube ads in this niche which did seem effective. However, most mlmers don't have the bragging rights which make these ads compelling. If you really have the big house, fancy cars, and large following, then sure, do a youtube vid and present your system to help others recruit. But most people can't pull this off, including myself.

Bottom line, mlm is all about personality marketing. So I think just sharing regular youtube vids and facebook posts and driving traffic to your blog, where you share lots of practical tips in your own personality and style will get you leads. I've done it in the past, and I know that works.
