Advice for an aspiring entrepreneur

Good evening everyone,

I've been trying for quite some time to find a way to make my living online but have yet to do so. I'm not one of those expecting to make a fortune, I'm sure that's something that takes many hours, failures and tears before something like that is reached. I just want to make an honest living.

I understand that internet marketing takes more that just throwing some affiliate links up on a website and expecting to make money, I learned that the hard way. I'll be honest, it's very difficult to do this on my own. I'm open to being mentored by the right person, I've met a few of the wrong so I'm extra careful.

I do have my own product but before I try and fail, I'd like to do some affiliate marketing first. Using products from ClickBank, CJ, Amazon for starters and go from there.

If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm very determined and am ready to take charge of my entrepreneurial future.

Thanks

It all comes down to what you have to offer the marketplace. Is it any good? Is it unique? My favorite way to develop a product is to 'scratch an itch'. Create something I wish existed but doesn't. Do something I wish somebody would do but isn't.

At this point, it's a numbers game. At some point one of your offers will take off and the market will buy.

    • Thanks Steve, as far as my research goes, my product is 100% unique.

Whether anyone wants to purchase it is to be seen. I want to get a good handle on how marketing works by setting an income goal for myself and meeting it using others' products first before using it on mine.

I want to give my product the fair chance it deserves.

This is my advice: You want to offer a ridiculous amount of value for the price that you charge. If you are able to do this, you'll do great long term.

You also want to have a long-term vision. There are a lot of techniques to make money quickly by basically scamming people but you just cannot build a business by doing this. I have a lot of friends that were making good money and all of a sudden they make $0 because of a change in algorithm. Because of that change and because of the fact that they were NOT PROVIDING MASSIVE VALUE, they don't have raving fans that will follow them no matter what. All the people that just want to make a quick buck instead of building a relationship with the customer will get destroyed at some point.

This is not just in the Internet marketing world, this is true in the stock market, Real estate, etc.

        • Thanks for the info MValmont.

Hi! I think the most honest way to making a living any where online and off is blogging

blogging when done right can be a beautiful thing.

but here is how you must approach it:

You Need To Educate People In An Entertaining Way.

by educating people you will build trust and creditably so when you recommend a high quality product to your audience they will think that you have their best interest in mind and not yours

this is because they are used to getting value form you so this product you are telling them about must be high quality.

"This is the only true way to boost your conversions because people buy form people not form webpages"

This is where people go wrong

when they think too much about making money rather than focusing on what really matters..

"Providing solutions to a marketplace of people with a similar problems"

when you can be a helpful individual in what ever way you can online, people will sense that and they will be eager to follow you so you can help them out even further.

If you want to make an honest living than is internet stuff is the perfect match for you but you first need to educate your self to a point where you can educate and help others.

            Hope that helped

            • Hey Jack and Mike, thanks a lot. My product will sell offline as well as on, I've talked to my target distributors who have assured me that people will buy.

The problem I'm facing is, I don't know how to do this and I want to do it myself. I love learning, especially if it can help me make a living online.

I'm thinking that finding a mentor is going to be my best route to get to where I need to go.

Blogging is a great idea, however.. I'm not much of a wordsmith and I truly don't know how "entertaining" I can be.

Well that's fine, but if you really want to take control of your bussiness you must educate yourself about internet marketing.

Writing engaging content that educates people and keeps them hooked is a skill and just like any other skill it can be learned.

To make life easier for yourself you should learn about copywriting.

copywriting is so important, once you understand the basic concepts of it, producing content that makes people take action will become second nature with practice.

the best resources I have found on this is this:
Copywriting 101: How to Craft Compelling Copy

                It's site called copyblogger.

again this skill goes beyond just writing content, it is about understanding what makes people buy stuff and take action, and it does not matter what bussiness you are in, this is a skill you can not afford to be without

You need to think of this as a real business. If you were not on the internet, would you be able to find a market and sell to them? (obviously not a practical requirement, more of a thought experiment).

Figure out your unique angle, find your market, and then get in front of them with a strong value proposition.

Those are the basics of business - online or off.

For the last three years I've attempted to sell at least over 300 products. Some have lost me $1,000s, others have made me $100s of thousands but for the main part I've succeeded the most by just picking something and doing.

    A lot of doing.

I'll try promote 10 products on the same day sometimes. Run a $30 FB traffic test to each one and see if anything bites.

There's a million ways to make a million dollars in this industry, just pick something and off you go! Only experience will teach you what works and what doesn't.

    All the best

Many have given you some great advice, I encourage you to look over the posts given because most of the replys offer some serious golden nuggets. My advice is to always try to over deliver on your offer, this is always a go. Another piece of advice is to always test your offers . Test, test, test

Its better to outsource the product idea, if you are not sure in how to develop it.

I mean you talk with the experienced guys in the field and get some idea.

First off, for you to make a product, you need to make sure that 1 the information in your product is proven to work and 2 you have the results to back it up. If you don't have both, I recommend you do affiliate marketing first and build your results and experience. Once you've got results, people will start listening...then you can go out with a product.

What I highly recommend you do is to invest in yourself. Learn the necessary skills that make an online business tick. #1 Traffic generation (learn and implement content creation i.e. blogging and video marketing, learn fb ppc, etc.) #2 capturing leads (creating a high converting optin page), and #3 converting those leads into sales (copywriting and relationship building). If you invest in yourself, there is no doubt that you will succeed online as long as you implement everything you know consistently.

The people who succeed online are successful simply because they continue learning and implement whatever it is they know. They focus on creating value which then attracts more people where they generate leads and eventually close into sales. It's a tough journey but once you make it happen, I promise you it's worth it. A lot of people make a lot of money just by doing this.

If you want to do affiliate marketing then create your own site and do either SEO or PPC. PPC can bring you immediate traffic but not SEO.

Follow a known internet marketer and study his products and how he market it. Check out his sales funnel, OTOs, freebies, autoresponder series and thank you pages then model it for your business and start generating traffic and convert them into leads/sales.

all the affiliate programs you have mentioned are good enough...

however since I myself am associated with ClickBank, I would say it is a wonderful affiliate network to start with because of the instant approval process that does not require any website or blog...

even Commission Junction is great based on my extensive experience in IM...

Amazon Affiliate is so far the best affiliate program present online but the approval process is extremely strict that requires an established blog, absolutely relevant and useful content, and massive visitor base every month...

Is there any way you can work alongside someone with more experience than yourself? Someone to take you under their wing so to speak and show you the ropes?

I know a lot of people working on the net that were fortunate enough to partner up with someone with a bit more experience than themselves, and just leapfrogged from person to person from there. Soaking up as much experience and information as they went along.

Lol, I think you'd be surprised how many successful partnerships started out as 2 friends in high school/college and dreamt their way to success.

What makes you think the marketing process will be any different? You SHOULD try and fail... you learn faster that way.

It sounds like you already know enough to start affiliate marketing.

*Build a list from a blog or a simple squeeze page
    *Promote your list
*Create articles to promote your list
*Consider creating an affiliate program to sell your product
*Create a weekly activity planner for traffic,, content, Revenue, improvement to blogs and sites (includes social media sites,) and research.
