I think godaddy are cheapest. They are the largest registrar, and not likely to go under. If you need additional things like ssl certificates they are good and cheap.

Do you mean buying a brand new domain, or buy one from auctions?

If former, I recommend NameCheap with the coupon code "INTERFACE", which makes it something like 8 dollars per domain.

I use name.com if I want a domain with private registration, because they do it for free. If it is a site that you are building in order to sell, it may be better to do it with Godaddy. If you search on "Godaddy coupons", you can get a coupon for $7.49/year for a "dot com" name.

I buy most of mine through GoDaddy.com. They often have coupons and are pretty easy to work with when you want to transfer a domain to or from someone else.

I picked up a bunch of .info names from them for 99 cents each a couple months ago. I'm figuring on flipping them before I have to renew them at full price.

I use justdropped.com for expired domains, and domaindo.com for registering new domains. They are a Wild West / GoDaddy affiliate, and the .com =$7.49 and .net= $6.49. Same Godaddy everything, just a lower price.

Hey LarryC, thanks for the bustaname.com info, I have been looking for a site like that for a long time, it will definitely cut down on my search time for good names!

I primarily use Godaddy, but have purchased a couple of names using Namecheap. If price is the overriding factor, choose Godaddy; if it's privacy, choose Namecheap.

I get most of my domains from wwwGoDaddy.com. They are absolutely the cheapest. Because the price is important for me I'm not going anywhere else. If you want additional services you have to pay more.. They are probably most known domain registrar in the world :p

      Take care

since day one online I have always used godaddy with out issue...
you can always find promo codes and that makes them very price competitive
I also have sold domains and pushed them thru godaddy with out issue
a good rule of thumb that was passed on to me a while back is to make sure you keep your hosting separate from your domains

Namecheap particularly for free "Whois Guard". I also use a .info URL for all the forward/cloaking sites. The last .info domain registered with Whois Guard cost $2.98 for 1 year.

I can fully recommend GoDaddy. Never had a problem with them and the customer service team there have always been friendly and have always got back to me on queries within 24 or so hours. You can also sell domains there which is good if you're into that kind of thing.

I just bought another 12 at godaddy.com. This is the trick I use...

      1. Sign into account
      2. Add domains to your cart
      3. Call customer service and ask for better price and free anonymous whois protection for a year.

I have always had the customer service rep say "No Problem." I just casually mention I use them and namecheap when registering new domains and want to know if they can help out a long time good customer.

Tell her to bill your paypal on file and the whole phone call lasts 5 minutes tops.

I have been using godaddy for a few years but it is a messy site to work with and they always try to up-sell. I am thinking of switching to someone else like namecheap since godaddy charges for privacy. Even if you get 1 yr free like I have in the past, then you gotta pay for it when the year is up. But godaddys support is good.

Here's what you do, Go to godaddy.com and register your domain and on the checkout area, before you pay, go to google and type in 'Godaddy coupon code'- once you get the code, apply to the checkout area and usually, the domain will come out like $7.65 instead of $10.60.

      Hope it helps!

I actually bought a few domains off HostMonster, and it seems quite good not sure why peope wouldnt buy from them.

Going on your second post (i.e. saying you want to buy from auctions and expiring domains etc), I'd suggest the forums NamePros.com to you - it's a free domaining forums (there's also DNForum.com but it's paid-for)

I use Moniker.com for regging domains (I get .coms for $7.75 since I have 1xx domains)

I just bought 2 new domains with namecheap.com using the coupon code: SolarSea for the price of 8.81 each. Really easy to use site and they have the free whois privacy that is pretty cool. Godaddy has been kind of a pain with the complex interface it has to do even simple tasks. I love namecheap.com so far and would recommend it over Godaddy.
