Successful bloggers, how long did it take to get a lot of traffic?

I couldn't be happier that I made the decision to start a website in Feb of 2015. It's almost my one year anniversary and my current traffic is averaging around 600 sessions per day (not very much). At the beginning I was lucky to get 40 sessions in a day. The most sessions I've had in a single day was probably around 4000. So far I've made roughly 800$ from affiliate programs.

For those of you who have been at this a while, how long did it take you to reach a lot of traffic? It's only been a year for me and I don't expect to be getting a ton of traffic yet, but when did most of you see sharp increases in traffic? The 2 year mark?

Congratulations! I started in January 2015, tomorrow is 1 year since I started.

My first niche is getting 300,000 pageviews per month (however is a specific niche site).
My second niche is only getting 3,000 per month (I started it 2-3 months ago).

The speed depends on the time you dedicate.

Since I base my content on existing topics that are PROVEN to get lots of traffic on FB groups and pages, traffic is almost INSTANTANEOUS.

    Seriously.

You need to pick the right niche and you need to promote actual content not fluff posts.

Otherwise, it's not going to pan out.

Depends always on individual - his expertise, knowledge, experience, writting skills determine content quality.
His experience and ingennuity, marketing & social skills determine how much and how relevant traffic he gets.

Traffic may depends on your content. If your niche is very good & your content is Original. Then your site traffic may increase. No plagiarism. You can do SEO to increase your site traffic. Thanks a lot.

I've also noticed that my bounce rate is pretty high even though my page loads fine and the design looks good. Do you think traffic from google searches contribute to higher bounce rates?

It really depends, google for me is giving around 65% bounce rate, what is yours?

Also, there is this list with the most famous bloggers who publish their income reports (some of them since they started). You can see them and compare their growth month after month.
Most of them publish their traffic too.

Now you have plenty of research to do ;-)

Alas, there's no one size fits all formula. I have about 30 sites online, mostly for the purpose of selling the domain name with the content being of lesser importance.

I have sites that were at the top of the page on day one and a few others that are a year old with 5 visitors per month.

I have sites that are 5 years old that get daily traffic despite the fact that no new content has been added in 4 years.

I have sites that have new content added on a weekly basis that might as well be hosted on Neptune.

I have sites that have been in the doldrums for months only to go above the fold for six months, only to return to the abyss after a month or two.

The thing is to love what you do, make some money and avoid spitting contests whenever possible.

My first blog probably took me about 6 full months to really get some traffic rolling.
After that, I know a lot more than when I started, so the next was a bit quicker.

It took me two years to reach 40000 views per month. Not because I was fool but because I was too lazy to try new ideas. You have to experiment a lot.

What sort of things were holding you back before the 40k views?

You should invest some money in purchasing some ads to ramp up the visitors to your blog

I'm not sure about a 'tonne' of traffic but I get enough to bring in a good monthly salary. Took about 1.5 years.

I usually start getting traffic in a week or 2. Mind you it is not a lot of traffic and I do employ some basic SEO
