Social Bookmarking Software / Is It Worth It

Hello,

We have a a bunch of clients and we are wondering whether social bookmarking is a necessary task in the new world of SEO. We have been doing it in the past and its part of our scope however the BIG QUESTION is - what kind of traction are we really getting from doing social bookmarking ? Is it really helpful for building links off articles and content ?

We looked at something like SENUKE which did not seem to provide the platforms that we needed for social bookmarking and we also had various teams doing social bookmarking with a complication of issues between reviews having to be done, logins and etc that all have us ask..would it be better to just do outreach to to guest blogs vs spending all of the time and energy on social bookmarking . I know it can be helpful for reputation management however are there any legitimate softwares out there to use for this task.

It be great to automate many of our processes at our company vs doing everything by hand however we want quality results ..

Love to hear warriors of the internet ideas and opinions on "Social Bookmarking" ..

I use FCS Networker for social bookmarks, it's a great piece of kit.

I've not used social bookmarks to try and give me a ranking boost for some time now, but I do find it useful for getting links indexed, so I use them on T2. I especially find it helps to send some bookmarks to my pbn posts after I publish them. Not thousands, just a hundred or so.

With FCS you can also build nice looking web2.0's easily enough, then build social bookmarks to those links too.

It's worth pointing out that I don't use FCS to send bookmarks to money sites. If I was going to, I would build the profiles by hand (not let the software do it) and then just use FCS as a way of submitting to them all at once.

I don't think it hurts to get bookmarked but I wouldn't put much time or investment into it. Getting links from topically relevant authority sites seems to be what Google is looking for at this stage. One of those links is better than any amount of bookmarks. If you are just looking to get a link indexed quickly I suppose bookmarking is good for that.

Demian Farnworth posted a good article about this at Can You Spot the Expert? Test Your Knowledge of Google's Content Quality Standards - Copyblogger

If what he wrote is accurate, it may be far more productive to human-curate link building as opposed to push button bookmarking.

        Rob,

For you to find authority niche related sites. Do you use different tools to find those sites like HARO or some of the other content platforms ? Be interested to hear. We are deciding whether or not all of this bookmarking and busy work really is a key factor in results or as you said invest the time into a few authoritative links would be better time spent.

We have gotten some great links from guest bloggers however we find that could take 2-3 months of communication and it depends on what business we are promoting since once business could sell hairspray and another could be an attorney.

        Thanks for the insights !
