Better Conversions on .COM, .NET, or .ORG domain?

Hi Warriors,

I have the .com, .net, and .org domains names for my affiliate offer.

I'm already using the .com for one affiliate network and want to set up the site on a separate network and domain.

Would the .net or the .org have higher conversions? Have you ever tested this?

Or should I buy another domain (with a similar name to my offer) and have it be a .com?

*note: this is not a health/medical offer (b/c I'd go with the .org for sure if that was the case).

It's an offer in the home improvement/DIY market.

Thank you!

  • I think you already know the answer

.org is most commonly used by charities and non-profits etc. Do you want to put yourself in that bracket it you are not?

.net is ok, but always considered the more spammy version of a .com

In conclusion, unless you absolutely dead set on a certain domain name that is only available as a .net, then go with a .com every time.
  • Totally agree with Jonny that a .com is preferred, followed by a .net and then a .org. But on conversion rate, there shouldn't be much difference between any of the 3 domains.

Your conversion rate will depend on the quality of your landing page. Optimize it as much as possible, use split tests, and you should be fine with any of your domains.
  • .com is the most recognizable to the average person. so i would say stick with a .com even though it has no effect on seo.

    • I agree with all who have posted. Certainly the .Com will give you better conversions than the rest.
  • .com shows up more than other TLDs almost every time in google search result!
