Multi-level marketing companies, let's build a list of 'em!

Hi, guys!
We all know that there are a lot of scam companies in MLM. But there are also proven companies selling cosmetics, supplements and stuff like that.
Maybe, you can suggest, where I can find a list of proven MLM companies, free to join with proven helpfull products or services?
If there is no links, maybe, we could create our own list?

I'm not into MLM but since I come across tons of offers/biz models promoting my sites, I can give you the following advice:
You're better off looking for forums/FB groups that specialize in MLMs
    They ARE around

Also if you find one you are interested in, look for people in them, find them on facebook and other social sites and see how they are marketing it, how they talk about it, search for their blogs. If they are doing or saying something you don't like, take that on board with your research.

There is some really good websites out there that do list the MLM sites, they give you a good detailed back ground and help you understand.

The word MLM scares people because there are more scams with people using the word and attatching it to their programs. The industry needs to have good leaders who help people learn and understand.

MLM is a brilliant concept. No matter where you are you are probably part of an MLM Structure.

Your CEO of the Company is the head, when you start to write down and work out the structure, you will notice your building a PYRAMID, the guy at the bottom isn't going to get paid as much as the guy at the top, but the guy at the top isn't going to do as much work as the guy at the bottom.

Do you think Richard Branson works in all his over 400 Companies.. lol. What I love about MLM, is that I am not selling my time for dollars, I leverage my training skills to teach others and help them, the more success they become the more success i gain, same way as the more success i get the more success my upline gets.

NO Matter what you get into, The Product should ALWAYS come first, if there is a good product that sells and there are buyers who buy the product, then that is a great start.

Personally myself I stick with Direct Banking, Paypal and Payoneer at the moment. I stay away from programs with systems that incorporate STP and them such systems that are notorious for helping scam systems. I have been in a few and lost a lot of money in them. Each one that I have lost money in has been a learning experience, it has shown me what to look for and not to listen to what the upline says ONLY.

The two that I am in now, is Karatbars International and SlimRoast, no links here if you want one PM me and I will show you.

      One is buying small amounts of Gold with a Network Marketing element to it, and the other is Healthy Coffee to keep me alive as a Type 1 Diabetic so I can enjoy the Gold lol;

When I am looking at a company I look at 5 Steps

      1 - Join For FREE
      2 - The Product
      3 - Autoship
      4 - The Training
      5 - Duplication

I hope that helps someone a little bit.

You may be able to find "low cost" start up fees, but I can't imagine finding any that are FREE. How can you be a supporter of what they have to offer if you don't personally even try their products? The idea of FREE doesn't even make sense.

I do not mean to come off in a harsh way, however I do have a question for you. How do you expect to get a quality product for FREE? Do you go in to the grocery stores meat department and expect to leave with free prime rib?

Anything worth doing is going to cost you money in the MLM realm. MLM is built on people buy goods and services from people above them, and then selling those same products and services to people beneath them for profit. It is probably not your fault though. THEY have not truly taught you about Network Marketing or MLM. I encourage you to search the forum here for more information or heck you could even PM me here.

I don't think he/she wants product free more like the cost of joining the MLM group , to me most of them are just shams and the money goes to the person who set it up

I think the word Ponzi has been mentioned before on the forum

Here's the best definition of a ponzi scheme I could find...hope this helps with the clarification of a ponzi scheme vs a legitimate mlm

"Pyramid schemes (or Ponzi schemes) encourage and reward people for recruiting when there is little value in the products and services. They are illegal because they entice the unwary, unwitting, and unwise into a scheme that will most likely lose them money. Nevertheless, they pop up from time to time, so it will help if you can identify them. Some schemes are presented as games to trap the unwary. For example, there is the airplane game, where participants were encouraged to sell "seats" in an imaginary "airplane." Once you fill your "airplane," you collect the money, while those who bought "seats" have to fill their own planes. It sounds nonsensical, and it is, which only proves some people truly are suckers.

Any scheme that encourages participants to buy large amounts of product (called front-end loading), which usually end up in basements and garages unsold, is considered a pyramid. Pyramid schemes tempt greedy, lazy and naive people with high commissions and bonuses, which is often based on how much product they bought at the entry-level. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Both the originators and participants of these Ponzi schemes can expect to end up in jail." - source What Are Pyramid Schemes and How To Avoid Them

Watch the Bernie Madoff mini series on ABC. That was the largest Ponzi Scheme ever. MLM companies are not Ponzi or Pyramid Schemes. MLM companies are direct selling businesses. Here is a list of the Top 100 Direct Salse Companies of which most of these are very successful MLM companies offering real products to real customers.

"MLM is built on people buy goods and services from people above them, and then selling those same products and services to people beneath them for profit. "

I do not agree with that. I work with people above me to help me understand the product and the system, i sell first, the product first, most people who come into my business are customers, i share with them ways to help get the product for free.

How many times have you recommended a movie, a pizza, or shared a diet hint, did you get paid for it, probably NOT, so when I help peopel with their purchase, and people ask them about it, i tell them, share with them the site, your story and from there you will build a business.

I DO NOT sell to people below me,if they purchase, i earn a commission, if they don't purchase i still earn a commission because I promote the product and other people are buying the Product. Some people I have only want the product they are not interested in the money side of it, other people want to reduce their costs and are interested.

If there is no product to sell, then your just recruiting and that is bad business. Build the product up,share your results because you use the product and your income will grow with it in due course.

Here is a much more exact definition:

"Whether a program is a legitimate multilevel marketing plan or an illegal pyramid
depends principally on: (1) the method by which the products or services are sold; and
    (2) the manner in which participants are compensated. Essentially, if a marketing plan
compensates participants for sales by their ""enrollees," "recruits," and/or their downline
enrollees and recruits, that plan is multilevel. If a program compensates participants,
directly or indirectly, merely for the introduction or enrollment of other participants into
the program, it is a pyramid."

Source: MLM Law - Legal Principles of Multilevel Marketing | MLM Law

Essentially, a multi-level compensation plan is NOT illegal however a pyramid scheme is!

The main difference is ARE YOU PAID ONLY FOR RECRUITING? Or are you paid for sales of a product that is actually in demand? If you HAVE to buy a product (or pay money for nothing), just to join the affiliate opportunity, then it's essentially a pyramid scheme and not a real company selling really in-demand products.

Anti-pyramid statutes provide that pyramids, endless chain schemes, or chain
referral schemes are illegal. Thus, so long as a multilevel compensation plan does not
fit within the parameters of the prohibited activities, it is permissible (at least as regards
    anti-pyramid laws).
Elements of a Pyramid Does Your Program Meet These Elements? (1) A scheme, plan or program; (2) For which a participant renders consideration to join; (3) For the right or chance to receive compensation or
other things of value; (4) Which is contingent upon the introduction of
additional participants into the scheme, plan or program. If any of the elements listed above are absent, the program does not violate state
    antipyramid legislation.

One of the big problems with MLM companies is that they are NOT free to join. As I do not do MLM marketing, I believe the members are also required to be customers... Which means they are required to purchase the MLM company's product every month.

This makes the MLM model NOT free to join.

Most MLM companies promote the opportunity much more than they do the product, which is where most MLM companies make most of their money. This is because the member is required to sponsor other members if they want to make the passive income they promote with the opportunity. This would be over and above what the member actually makes selling the product.

Most of the time, just the selling of the product does not pay a very good commission.

I hope this has been helpful,
    Steve Yakim

The biggest problem I've seen with MLM companies is that the products you are trying to sell is either something that people either wouldn't normally buy or priced 3 times what they would pay at their local store. So you are trying to convince people to change the way they shop and then convince other people to do the same. There is no establishing value first. Just about every expert to online marketing gives you free information or something else of value before asking for a penny.
The company I am with offers people a way to save money where they already shop, go out to eat or go to the movie. We offer a way for them to save for FREE.
Thus establishing a value. Then they are shown a way that they can save more money while making money.

That is why you do your research, read the FAQ, search out scam name, search the social sites and see how other affiliates are promoting it, see what they are doing, if you don't like it or it looks scammy then do not enter into it. No matter the promise of spill over or signups.

Their success isn't yours just remember that.

"Most MLM companies promote the opportunity much more than they do the product,"

This creates a very short term company. It might not be the companies that push the Opportunity it might actaully be the affiliates. That is bad for business and bad for the company.

The best way, find something you need. I needed something to help me stop being a greedy bugger, I found it and i take it every month, its good for me and i share it, that way i am buidling the product and not the opportunity.

A Company that promotes the Opportunity more, then your going to get in trouble sooner or later. Thats why you search around the social sites and find out who is doing what with the company, how its marketed, what people are saying, read the pages, the sales etc and see what is going on.

It shold be PRODUCT first always. That way you know its in demand, and that it will have a better lifespan.

If you join a company and you see someone just do teh recruitment, tell them to read the FAQ again and they will see how to do it properly.

These threads are always hilarious... sadly, newbies who don't know
better often believe the nonsense and miss out on excellent opportunities.

The OP clearly asked for names of companies so they could make a list.,

Without fail, a whole bunch of "experts" show up posting their silly
nonsense and misinformation... as if someone asked for their opinion!

The funny part is they all want to tell you what a flawed model it is
while 90% of them haven't made their first dollar with the model they
    think is so superior.

Moral of the story: If you want to know something about something
ask people who have actually done it successfully. Don't take advice
from those who have never done what you want to do.

    Hi Kalambur,

Every successful business (be it online or offline) is network marketing. You can't be a successful entrepreneur building your business ALONE right? That's just plain stupid.

Whatever MLM company that is, you only have to make sure they have a good training platform for sales and how frequent do they interact with their business partners (their so-called "downlines" that I'm not fond of mentioning). Lastly, how leaders (so called "uplines") diligently they support their biz partners?

I know a group that has all these.

I am not aware of any PROVEN MLM company that is FREE to join on some list somewhere.

    However, there are companies like:

    1- Avon

    2- Melaleuca

    3- Herbalife

    4- Doterra

    5- Amway

All of these companies are 'proven'.

But the reps who take part with them understand that they are real independent businesses that cost money to get started with and to upkeep.

I guess I may be one of the 'dumb' ones then. lol

I don't market any MLM online per say.

However I do market affiliate products that BOTH network marketers and affiliate marketers can use to help them with traffic, leads and conversions.

One of the most profitable skills that anyone could develop (whether in MLM or Internet Marketing) is 'how to make cold market sales from people you have never met or spoke to personally."

You will NEVER build a long term sustainable MLM business with that method... never.

It's fine for selling shovels to miners... what you said you do... but for building an MLM
business I can't think of a single skill that would be less useful.

There's a list of over 150 of them here: The Ultimate Guide to 150+ Direct Sales and MLM Companies for 2016

This post actually has links to each company's official website, BBB, Glassdoor, Facebook, and LinkedIn page so you can do your own research into the company, find out if you know people who work with the company, etc.

What never stops to amaze me is how the MLM thrives on the idea that success can be obtained with hard work. In other words, the only ones who fail are those who either give up or don't try hard enough. With a success ratio of less than 5%, might the problem perhaps be with the business model itself?

Many MLM companies have FANTASTIC products, however, the consistent problem is that those products are priced way too high!!! How long would a "customer" be willing to keep on paying way more than they would for a comparable product available at some local store? This explains the very poor retention rate that MLM companies have. The only ones who stick it out are those trying to build a business. It is simply not possible to build a LONG STANDING business if the vast majority of customers quit a month or two later.

Here is a very interesting video that explains the loopholes in the MLM industry:

As others have said, there are many lists already online,
but I will offer some advice on how to evaluate companies.

The following has served me well over the years.

    What I will say is:
    1) look for a company or at least a company leader that has been in the industry for a while. The last thing you want to do is pour your heart and soul into the next great thing only to have it vanish 6 months later as so many do. I'm not saying join some 30 year old company that millions are in, but just not something that started last week, where they SAY millions will be in soon. ;.)

    2) Look for a company where a large chunk of the money stays with you. Some companies pay you a sliver until you get up to massive levels. What I dont like about this is that it usually kills the possibility of paid marketing, because if you dont make enough on each sale, you can afford to invest in the traffic.

    3) Look for a company where you not only like the products they offer.. you will USE them. This means you can offer great testimony of the values of the products.

    4) stay away from companies the say they'll automatically make sales for you or build your downline. That isn't sustainable. It's just preying on peoples laziness.

    5) look for a person in the company that you are joining that is 1) successful and 2) markets in a way you can see yourself doing. Then once you join them, take massive action. Follow their lead... success leaves clues, so folow them.

    6) However, once you have joined a company, don't mindlessly do JUST what they say to do. (i'm talking about the company here, not the person you joined)
Do something that separates you from the crowd. I suggest that your leader probably has, and thats how they've been so successful.

    7) Whereas many companies do not have a free to join option, its a pretty easy process to create a sales funnel to offer something for free, to get leads, where once collected, you can then share the companies products as well. This is an example of a simple extra step that would separate you from the crowd.

These are just some thoughts that have served me well.

Unless you have a fantastic ability to sell, I wouldn't recommend MLM, and if you are able to sell well enough to succeed in MLM, you would literally make much more with you own actual company you have control of.

You need more than just a list of MLM companies, you need a great marketing plan also. I know alot of MLM programs are based online, but the ones that require offline marketing can be VERY profitable. I suggest taking a look at a book called "Prospecting Sucks" by marketing genius Dan Kennedy.

I have always seen MLM companies going on certain boost up in start, getting popular and then disappearing. We never seen a consistently performing MLM. Why bother with a business model that doesnt work long term. Lets focus on building our own business instead of making others rich
