Traditional Business Online - Getting Started

Hi I would like some advice regarding my online marketing to date and getting our business online.
First of all we are mortgage brokers looking to enter back into the market. Build a website and authority in our niche online to create leads for ourselves.

My experience is that I have learnt a lot about online marketing and having a crack at it, at this point I am building a website with frustration. I have used Fiverr and have used Odesk in the past, which is now Upwork. It has come with a lot of heartache and frustration.

I now have come to the warrior forum for advice on what I should do in regards to marketing the business online, my thoughts at this stage on moving forward are to:

1.Finish the website off by either hiring another outsourcer or going back to the guy I had but was taking a long time, so after 5 weeks and a major push on him I did like what he produced.

2.Or do I go with an outsourcing company who can hire most of the workers for all the different roles I will need. Preferably Philipines as for timezones and english language.
Thoughts on that would be great.

3. Hire an experienced Project Manager, one who is affordable would have to be.

The reason I am attempting to do majority of the work is lack of funds and a tight budget.
But saying that I have wasted some monies on outsourcers and also learnt a lot of lessons doing so it works both ways I know that.

Thoughts on this from others would be good.
I have scheduled some strategy calls with a couple of outsourcing companies in the phillipines and spoke to one here in australia yesterday.
I have a feeling the one here in australia is going to be hexy, they have not given me any direction as of yet, just a fair bit of fluff on the phone.

I hope all the above makes some sense.

Everyone understands that the economy is getting tighter, even more so since the beginning of the year. In order to re-break into your specific niche in any big way, you need a good budget behind you for local SEO.

When dealing with a project manager you must be in control. They do not know what you want. Only you know what you want. This is why you must sit and plan what you want to do. A business plan so to speak for your web business. You can then take this plan to your project manager and go over how they can implement what you want. Listen to what they say, if you don't have confidence ... move on.

When I have dealt with outsourcers on Freelancer and formerly Scriptlance as well as Elance and other outsourcing sites before I always ask for examples of similar websites, software and projects. I can then use that example to tailor what I want specifically to their key skills. A lot of people will always bid on a project and never give any specifics to what exactly you are looking for, I never bother dealing with them, only dealing with people who actually take an interest in the project and of course have examples of similar work.

The key here is specifics. You must be specific with your requirements. Use examples of other sites and projects that you would like to tie in with your own project. This will make it easier for an outsourcer to quickly grasp what you want and then go about proving to you they have the ability to complete the deal.

One recent web software project I had created I hired Freelancer and paid for their "Recruiter" upgrade. Freelancer then put me in contact with an outsourcer who actually could do the job for the budget I offered. The work was done quickly and successfully. I was very pleased with the result. So it actually pays to know what you want, have examples and go with the "recruiter" option that will get your project done quickly and within budget.

      I hope this helps.

      Regards...

      • Yes I have done most of what you have mentioned with screenshots of other sites, colours and target market and also have tweaked a marketing plan from a previous freelancer and expanded on it.
I am going to use a Project manager then me trying to do the project management myself
Thanks for the replies and looks like I was on the right track.

  • I have decided to employee an outsourcing company I have contacted 5, 2 from referral information here on warrior forum
3 others from research on linkedin

So it was down to 2 outsourcing companies
    one with 123 employee
    the other with Carve.ph

    the others were virtual coworker
    VBA
Another was from upwork an outsourcing company prefer not to say

So 123 employee can't do all the tasks but looked good, got a lot of email marketing from them and still waiting on a reply?? The only thing they don't take on board is web development.

Carve.ph were awesome, contacted me asap when I applied to talk to them, they are in the phillipines so easy to talk to and communication was great.

I have decided to go ahead with this company and they fit my budget.
So I will keep you posted how I go, I am a little nervous as I have spent monies on past freelancers but I do feel relieved and have my strategy and plan in place ready to work with there team.

I want to say thanks to the post regarding carve.ph as I would never have found them.
