Can I Make Money with a Stock Photo Sharing Site?

I just saw a new wordpress theme that came out that lets you create a stock photo sharing site. I am not a photographer. So the question is can I use royalty free images from Pixelbay and other sites to create the site or is that prohibited.

Also since such a site would be sharing photos for free how would one make money with such a site (use to build a list, adsense, CPA?)

If for some reason this is not in the right forum, please let me know.

    A lot of stock photo sites already offer a "freebie" section.

    They charge for photos that people submit for sale.

    See if the theme has a way to make a members area where you can allow others to sell their stuff there. You'd get a cut on those profits.

    As to how you could monetize on it, there are a few ways.

    Keep in mind you are still going to have to drive traffic to the site.

    It depends of what you want to do, create your own image bank or do affiliation.

    This is a big business, most of the time, a good site makes more than 2 million $ / year.
    The main reason is the price of the photos and also that many companies need this service, they can't take their photos on google image...

    But in the other side, they have lot of troubles related to their "royalty-free" offer.
    Most of the time, they are attacked by the professional photographers, because It's a big problem for them.

    A good photo costs way more than $1 or $2...
    So because of these sites, they loose their business, the competition is too high for them.

    And working with these platforms is not the solution because you earn almost nothing.

    This is why these type of websites always have to fight with some ppl or associations who try to stop their business.

    I would definitely not use free pics from other websites...for sure you are not allowed to do that and they would most likely trace you. I'm not an expert, but I would start with research. Try this on for size: Top 10 sites to sell your photos online | Autographer Blog
    Maybe it will give you an idea about what and how these people are doing it. It's a starting point

      What you're in for is:
      • Tons of work
      • Potential legal problems (what if an image on Pixabay is copyrighted?)
      • Need for massive amounts of traffic to make the site popular
      • Competition from all the other stock photo sites (anyone can purchase a photo for $1 - the difference between a dollar and "free" isn't much
      • Lots of server resources
      • Most likely advertising on your site as your source of income (which will require a huge amount of traffic)
      If you are an expert at driving traffic you might have a chance - otherwise, I would say there are a lot better and faster ways to derive income online.

    It's possible, but make sure to have a unique approach that offers value. Most times "can you make money with x" is the wrong place to begin.

    My favourite stock website is Pexels.com - 95% of time find something of paid quality. It's monetised with affiliate links. If you find a way to do better than them you're probably onto something good. Bigger range, better tagging, etc.

    Some designers I know who work with major corporations prefer Pexels to paid iStock images even though Pexels is free!!

      I like Pixels for general nature and general type photos. I tried to use it to locate some city specific photos but it just produced general photos. But I like the fact that no attribution is required. So thanks for the tip.

    I would like to try this business, i'ev been doing a lot of research on this niche, and i see it profitable because u will have a lot of traffic. Doing big database with a lot of tags , and a lot of categories is definetly money. My self personally i would like to try and i see it as a potential big bussines with Royalty Free Images. You need good pictures and big varieties of categories. If you have some ideas about this niche, please share it here. thanks
